Enterprise Email Servers

Hey WHT,

I'm posting here because of the continued quality feedback throughout the time I've been a member.

My goal (hopefully) is to obtain information, pros/cons, reviews, or any other feedback regarding the following Enterprise Email Systems.
  • Zimbra
  • Scalix
  • Mirapoint
  • Communigate Pro

Any responses, both positive and negative, will be beneficial in my research for our company's new email system.

Thanks

If its for a decent size professional corp I would use exchange.

To give additional information, we're roughly a 1K mailbox system and planning future growth within the next 2 years to be around 2500-300 mailboxes. We're 90% with only our AV and one specific application server that's being phased out with a new web platform.

Also, we don't run an AD environment and we don't want the overhead of Exchange

Honestly with that many mailboxes I highly recommend exchange.

I ran scalix a while back, and really liked the usage. I however had issues with data corruption, and found recovery pretty difficult. I was using the community edition, so support was forum based.
Another thing to consider is the mail client the end user uses. Scalix and Zimbra have plug ins for Outlook. I have not heard about the other options you have raised.
I have years of experience with Exchange server, and trust the performance and recoverability (is that even a word). Both Scalix and Zimbra have comparable features to Exchange. Whatever you go for, I highly recommend getting decent hardware to run it on as well as getting purchasing Vendor support as downtime is expensive and having the fallback to the Vendor is very good to have.

You can make a poll about different mail servers on WHT and you would surely find good results which would give you analysis about the Mail Servers but if you ask me then Exchange Server is the best as far as Enterprise hosting is concerned.
