Question

Troubleshooting LFD "Excessive resource usage"?

Hi

I keep getting emails from LFD in my cPanel VPS on "Excessive resource usage" and they all look like this

Account: myaccount
Resource: Process Time
Exceeded: 6575 [this figure varies] > 1800 (seconds)
Executable: /usr/bin/php
Command Line: /usr/bin/php
PID: 17953
Killed: No

Yes the Executable and Command Line items are exactly the same.

Can anyone advise where I should start looking to troubleshoot this issue? What exactly might be causing this?

Thank you!

I simply turn off that feature in LFD, it is annoyingly verbose and prone to excessive panic.

With a php error/warning like that, it means either a badly coded page or posibly you are hitting a limit in your VPS and php is hanging. Also it could be it is just freaking out for a moment, it likes to do that as well. If it is the same user effected by the php warning, look closer.

Among other things, go see what it's doing (via root shell).
lsof -p 17953

Or:
cat /proc/17953/fd/ >proc.txt
(then read that txt file)

Or:
cat /proc/17953/environ
ls -lah /proc/17953

Turning this reporting off is potentially ignoring something important.
