    The Bluehost Sellout?

From the excerpt of the article below, it looks like Bluehost has been sold to Endurance International.

    From here:
On Monday, U.S. District Judge Dale Kimball granted Koch Industries' request for accelerated discovery from subpoenas it issued to FastDomain Inc. and Bluehost Inc., both based out of the same office in Provo, Utah. The companies are owned by parent company Endurance International Group Inc.

That would be news to me. I haven't heard of EIG buying Blue Host, although Mattie has mentioned he may want to sell at some point in the near future. May be incorrect information in that article...

The sale is not a surprise to me, though I didn't have a confirmation it was EIG who bought them. The number of big independent hosts is getting smaller by the day.

It's interesting to see Endurance buying up cPanel based hosts (Justhost last year), and not announce it to the world. I guess it's better for them when people are unaware of the connection.

Indications of Bluehost selling out to EIG surfaced on the internet around Nov. 07, 2010 in a twitter post:

BlueHost sold to Endurance International. I'm sure that wasn't cheap considering their current yearly revenue exceeds $85 million per year.
Only time will tell if the information is correct or not. One thing is for certain niether EIG nor Bluehost has said anything publicly of such a transaction.

Interestingly enough EIG was silent after the acquisition of Justhost as well.

Matt's LinkedIn profile hasn't changed yet:

Although he stopped updating his personal blog on Nov. 13. I guess if Blue Host was sold, then so was hostmonster (his other holding).

I've actually heard rumors about this for awhile. One thing I am curious to know is how much it was sold for and if they plan to make any changes?

Generally once a companies reputation is tarnished it is hard to get it back, however, in saying this people still choose both the companies that were owned, so makes you wonder
But then it would be great to see a change.

It's not a rumor, they were acquired by EIG.

Everyone knows how "great" bluehost is! I wonder if they will "new and improve" them.

    let's hope they tame them

So I wonder if their TOS will change to allow cussing on your own website? Also, I find it interesting that Matt had a moral issue with cussing and porn being on his servers, but no issue selling his customers to group of known craphole creators who care for nothing but the root of all evil?

Where in their TOS does it prohibit cursing?

Why is it bad they sold? No one really knows the agreements - for all we know nothing changes in the operation aside from the fact EIG now is the primary owner. Businesses as large as BlueHost simply don't change overnight. As far as I know JustHost didn't have too many operational changes (albeit I haven't followed them closely).

I don't think any changes would happen so quick. It may take some time for them to make changes and if they do what would you members & bluehost clients like for them to change?

From a marketing perspective it will position the EIG companies very well concerning the "top ten hosting review" type of sites. In many cases they will hold 7 out of 10 spots on such a site.

By acquiring Fastdomain, EIG becomes an instant ICANN registrar.

EIG may integrate the SimpleScripts auto installer in their other brands.

But at this point only EIG knows what they desire to do with Bluehost. So everything from outside the loop is just speculation.

That's assuming SimpleScripts is part of the acquisition since it's a separate legal entity from BlueHost.

Right I was making the assumption SimpleScripts was included in the deal, which may or may not be correct.

I guess only time will tell see how everything in this acquisition unfolds.

I have my blog and forum hosted with BlueHost. I also have 2 dozens + domains registered with them.

I wish the new owner and operator (EIG) stops the "sudden shutdown" of sites on shared domains without prior notices. If need be, they may consider offering limited disk space and bandwidth to cut down some of the problems.

Perhaps, they may consider offering "reseller" packages too

Looking at EIG's past track record, I wouldn't hold your breath of the wishes you desire coming true any time soon?

I've had experiences with EIG not once but twice -- each time buying out a host I was using, and essentially ___ing it all up in the process. It wasn't until some many months after the 2nd incident that I came to learn the foul presence that is Endurance. And honestly, as far as I'm concerned, EIG didn't just buy out Readyhosting and Hypermart -- they raped them. That's their track record -- buy and screw, buy and screw. When they start to move your data to their own servers, it's common to have LOTS of downtime, lost data, and lost emails.

List of EIG (to avoid): http://www.webhostingtalk.com/showpo...5&postcount=15

If Endurance buys your host, seriously, it's time to find another host.

Hypermart???? Lots of cool anime forums and galleries were on hypermart and lots of them are now gone and have been for a while.... wonder if that was the reason..... one did mention a fight with them.

Let's just say that my description of what happened to Hypermart is probably too colorful for the rules of this forum. (Hint: a broomstick is involved.) That was quite a few years ago. It went from good free service (old HM) to crap pay service (new EIG). Thus incurred a mass exodus. That was at least 7-8 years ago.

... and I happened to be one of the people with an animation site, including original artwork.

    You nailed it.

And it sounds like EIG is now going to nail Bluehost.
