Hello All,
I use these forums quite frequently for research so I thought I should post an initial review of NfoServers VDS. I have had the VDS for a little over a week now.
A little about my history would be appropriate I suppose. I have a small family website which runs gallery2 and I use my server primarily for that but with the occasional project thrown in. I have had a VPS/Dedicated of one brand or another for a little over 5 years now. Bottom line is while I am no means a professional sysadmin I know my way around linux and need no major technical support.
I have had numerous VPS/VDS systems and a splattering of Dedicated boxes in the year and I have come to recognize good performance vs. bad as well as helpful support vs. canned responses. I was originally a little reticent to order another VPS/VDS because my experience has been that disk io is slower because of the shared nature of the server.
I was browsing the offers section and found the ad for nfoservers vds systems and they offered a location in Dallas, my preference. While the prices are not on the cheap they are not outrageous either. They had a free two day trial so I gave them a shot. I ordered a 2-Core VDS.
My box was setup within minutes and the ordering process was very easy. The box was delivered just as ordered, even with the extra ip address already bound in the interfaces file. I was impressed. I began to migrate my files and the transfer speeds were excellent, it was obvious that the gigabit port were truly not overloaded as I have experienced in the past.
After migrating I switched DNS and that is when I was really impressed. A gallery2 page with 20 images and a custom them loaded in less than half a second! That is faster than the $120/month dedicated I had before. The disk io of my box continues to impress my a week later with no slowdowns. Good job!
The ping times and tracert have been stable at 8ms to my home and the network has been up 100% of the time (monitored by pingdom @ 1min increments). I couldn't be happier with the hardware or network.
A few days after settling in I looked at my billing and noticed that I needed to moved my due date a day or two back to allow for funds to be available. The payment date was the same as my direct deposit and I didn't want to get caught in the lurch. So I emailed support fully expecting a "Sorry for your issue, please reorder accordingly next month" or the like. The ticket was forwarded to John (the CEO) and he gladly moved the due date and whats more was extremely pleasant and helpful about it.
I always do some research on the company as I hate fly by night operations. I found that they had been in business for almost ten years, a big plus. I also browsed their forums where they make available "Testimonials" as well as "Flames" which I thought was nice to see as well.
Long story short I can't recommend these guys enough and while it has only been a short time at the moment I have no doubt I will be posting yearly reviews when the time comes.
