Hosting Nightmare. Need advice.

Hello everyone.

I have a small/massive problem. I've just started at a new company and they've 'lost' the details for the hosting account that they host a lot of their clients websites on, and also their own ( I know right). The problem is, not only have they lost the username and password they also have no idea who is hosting it, under which account or any of the FTP details for any of the sites.

I have managed to figure out that the site is hosted by Verio by using the Whoishostingthis.com website but it seems that the domain name is registered there and there is no hosting plan in place whatsoever. I also managed to access the ftp client but there was no 'www', 'public_html' or 'var' folders and a long lost of index.htm, index.html, index.php and so on.

I need to get this sorted and find out where the site is hosted, how I can access the files and what the ftp details are. There must be someone who has had a similar experience before that can help me in some way. I have tried everything here, even going as far as checking the companies billing records to see what hosting companies we're paying and the list is endless.

please help

Actually I've just checked whoishostingthis.com with some sites that I host myself on justhost and it's coming back with allsorts of random hosting companies that simply aren't correct, so it may not be as reliable as I first thought.

It would be helpful to post the domain here, if you would like us to try finding your host.

I don't want to name and shame the company on here so I'll give you the IP address and you can follow it to the site. 199.238.156.159. Please don't name the company in any replies.

Wow this is the same company who has hosted a HUGE buffet chain I like. They recently had a HUGE problem with that Buffet place's site and it was down for 2 whole days! I did get the verio thing as well!

Ok the buffet chain's site works and they are in the same datacenter, however the IPs are different. strange.....

Because we're getting billed by about 20 different hosting companies and I have no idea which one this particular site is with. Plus they don't provide login details with any of the billing so I've had to find out what is being billed to who at which email address and contact the hosting company and try to explain the situation without sounding like I'm trying to rob someone's hosting package.

ryans.com the parent company buffets inc owns hometown buffet, old country buffet, and fire mountain.

the buffets.securesites.net is the host listed under an ip-address info site.

thier site was down for like 2 days and a little bit of a 3rd. I don't know the full details of the outage but I know it was complained about on thier FB page and I did inform them.

In this case you may need to contact individual company who bill you. You should get to know by the time you reach to half (10) of them.

Sad to hear you story, though
