For all those who have been waiting, it is official. The iPhone will be available on Verizon Feb 10th. It may just be for the fact that Verizon is CDMA, but there is a revised antenna design as well. More details at engadget.com.

Only problem with the Verizon version is that there is no GSM capability, so you can't use it overseas. But for most people that's probably a small price to pay for a better network in the US.

I was really surprised when I read speculation of this yesterday. Verizon has been the leader in the Android systems and never thought they would bring in Iphone.

I think Verizon is simply trying to offer a wide variety - they now have smartphones running iOS, Android, and BlackBerry. It's a major selling point for them as a carrier, on top of their solid network.

I'm now debating whether or not to drop my Droid X for the iPhone in February.

a new phone doesn't help the terrible network and nickel and diming.
I canceled my home phone today and was charged $100+ETF for moving...yea goodie! they dont even serve the area I am in now.

I don't get how it's a better network... it's slower than AT&T's 3G network and you can't do data/voice at the same time.

Though I do agree that full 3G on AT&T is faster then full 3G on Verizon, the areas in which you have more bars seem to be more plentiful on Verizon. They're really pushing that whole less dropped calls idea too. And I can live without using data and voice at the same time(I've been doing it for over a year with my Droid).
Anyway I'm considering jumping ship to the iPhone but not until they release the 5 in summer. Don't get me wrong, I'm extremely satisfied with my Droid. It's just become a little outdated and it's hard to find a phone that offers vanilla Android without having to turn to T-Mobile for the Nexus 1/S.

AT&T has the slowest 3G network here in NYC and still problems with dropped calls (they have had this issue for years). They also don't have nearly as much coverage overall. Verizon is infinitely better in terms of coverage/reliability. Yes, in some areas AT&T has better performance on 3G, but Verizon is consistently good in that area as well. Don't forget that AT&T has also has only 2G in a lot of places where Verizon has 3G.

I wouldn't suggest it - you should probably just wait a bit for the new iPhone in the summer. Droid X and current iPhone are pretty comparable in terms of hardware right now, and Android is even better than iPhone's OS in some respects IMO.

I like the new feature - Personal HotSpot - You can use the new Verizon Iphone 4 as Wifi Hot Spot - Cool! That means your laptop can use your Iphone 3G Internet Connection

I guess it's in the eye's of the beholder - though to be fair, I don't travel very much to NYC anymore. When I do travel, I haven't experienced any issues with my phone - I think I'll stick to my faster AT&T network and will deal with any slowdowns in NYC.

Eye's of the beholder? Not quite. There's real data showing this.
http://blog.laptopmag.com/verizon-ip...#axzz1AkqwnMm4
Verizon iPhone 4, faster than AT&T iPhone 4 in real world performance.
AT&T has a poor quality network - I've used it enough myself outside of NYC as well, and while their technology may allow them to have better 3G speeds, they still have issues with congestion at their towers which often negates the benefit.

Again, eyes of the beholder - the link to a blog doesn't really change that fact, does it?
I travel quite frequently and the speeds on AT&T's network blow away Verizon's - but, that's been my usage (can't compare iPhones as I don't have a Verizon one, but pretty easy to compare a data card on AT&T's network and Verizon's network, side by side).
Like I said, aside from overall coverage, I don't get the hype. Again, slower network, inability to do voice/data at the same time. Folks seems pretty excited about going backwards - but that's understandable, most popular gadget on a new network....

You can, but it has to be in a country that has CDMA. Verizon said there was 40 countries for voice service, and I think 20 for data.
