Hostpacket strikes again (apparently)

I haven't been on this forum since June. I've had decent service with Hostpacket, except for that sticky situation in August, but they resolved it well (for me).

I haven't been here, so I didn't see all the problems people were having or read any of the posts. My service has continued uninterrupted since then.

Now their website is down, and so are all of mine. Does anyone have any way of contacting them? Telephone, non-hostpacket email, anything?

I prepaid a year in advance, and now I'm screwed. I've been down since just after the first of the year... Luckily, none of the people I'm hosting for have called... yet.

HostPacket.com or Hostpacket.net?

Hostpacket.com redirects you to urlbaron.com, and HostPacket.net is down.

hostpacket.net

It being down means that I have no way of contacting them.... I'm more than a little peeved. This is the third scam I've come across in the last year. The first guy shut down after a month.

Time to pay a little more and get a good provider

With the luck I've had, I doubt that I'd WANT to pay more for a host. It's more to lose when THEY shut down. Price is not always proportional to quality of service. I could just be paying more to be scammed.

And the Big Guys are impossibly out of my range.

While you are true in many respects, I think a service for $1 a month that claims unlimited everything will provide you with a lower quality service, than a provider for $20/mth that gives you 10gb's of transfer. Also you might want to check how long the host has been in business, wht for comments etc.

That's their number listed in the whois database. I've already tried it. It's out of order, but thanks.

A phone number I found in another thread about them. The number in their whois is fake.

Yes, most of their WHOIS information is insufficient.

I, apparently, have the owner's apartment address. Should I post it here?

I was former hospacket client. I paid 3 months:July , August and September of 2002. My site was being hosted for free since October 2002 , no support , but no monthly fee. Sooner or Later the server would be down , I implemented daily backpus myself and since January 2 of 2003 the server is down. I do not know if Kevin stopped to pay for the datacenter or simply let the server alone , Linux crashed and he did not fix the problem yet.

Any one know if is possible to contact the datacenter and ask if at least the server is running or if the owner stops to pay the bills ?

I think hotpacket is (was) hosted at www.he.net .

I changed to another host , paying less than was paying to hostpacket , but smaller plan , 5 Gig Transfer / 4 US$ month with hostpacket and 3Gig / 2.5US$ month with my new host.

I’m not making money with my site and I think that compensate to stay with low cost services and move if the service deteriorate or the webhost simply disappear. I only take some extra precautions with backups , I prefer to pay with Paypal, and no 6 or 12 moths plans.
