Drop box on a dedicated servers
Hi,
Is it possible to install dropbox at a dedicated server and use the storage itself on the server?
If not, are there any other alternatives out there that we can do this with...?

Interesting question, I have always thought it would be nice to use my own servers instead of paying for the larger storage plan from Dropbox.

I imagine there is some software out there that does something like this. I'd be curious to know what it is as well.

If you google dropbox clone, you can find several people that are trying to build something. There are some working scripts on linux systems, but there is no interface or anything.
Here is one of the only places that has a site. There are some betas on it, but there are no production ready clients for any OS. http://www.sparkleshare.org/

Easy, on both Linux and Windows.
For Windows, see http://superuser.com/questions/67551...s-on-windows-7.
For Linux, use FUSE and SSHfs.
There's also Dokan and NekoDrive if you want to use NFS.

My suggestion would be to use NFS. You can use it from anywhere.
If you want to use Amazon, then there is a free app called Dragondisk which is good for backing up content. Although it's no where functional as a dropbox.

Yes, of course you can, and the Dropbox's storage on Amazon S3 is very reliable and cheap than buying directly.
