This is your site. Do you have, or will you set, any standards of conduct?

If you're going to allow any foul mouthed cretin to trot out their limited vocabulary of profanity, please say so. I, for one, have no desire to participate on any site that allows the worst of humanity to be displayed.

Please take a stand and make it known.

The time I woke up this morning the message was already moved to the private Admin forum, thanks Nightflames and I doubt it will reappear.

I certainly don't agree with the language of the post, but if he had used no swear words and was netiquette then the post would have still been there, for others to response to either agree/disagree or for PCISD to respond. Everyone has the right to complain.

In regards to other messages, mainly where Davey has replied with the words '**** off' I have been asked to leave the messages for proof against Davey for whatever reason, the two threads where both clients and TH have been having heated debates have been archieved as well, so people can't login to delete/edit their messsages. I think we will edit some of the bad langauge in some of the active threads, but leave the achieves intact.

Basically, I want this forum to do well and grow! We haven't even started marketing it yet and we are experience a good level of visitors.

That's good news, thank you. I would suggest a good FAQ where this is stipulated, That, more than anything, can be a deterrent of similar outbreaks. It is far more effective than any technological feature of a forum program. Just set some ground rules and tell people what they are and youll find most wiling to comply.

The offending thread has been moved to allow its consideration at another time. The admin of the site does not approve of the title in any shape or form, neither does it approve of selective censorship.

That's great news. Let's be clear on one thing, though. Expecting people to keep a civil tongue and refrain from using profanity and vulgarity is not censorship. Nobody's ideas are being suppressed solely by requiring that they express themselves in a civil manner.

In regards to an earlier question you posed to me, I don't read every message, not even all in a discussion I respond to. I skip over any about TH for instance. So, if there have been earlier examples of unsuitable language, I hadn't noticed. However, when it's on a title field and in caps to boot, it's difficult to miss.

I've seen how fast some forums can go downhill when anything goes. Decent people leave, the sites get blocked from viewing by BESS and other screeening software, whicvh deprives potential viweres of the benefits of the site.

I've also seen what happens when you expect the best from people and have standards,as on my forums. Even during heated discussions, people maintain respect for each other, and "butt" is the closest it comes to being unsuitable (which is not close at all).

I wouldn't care to see the value of this site diminished by a downward slide I've seen elsewhere.

(GREAT NEW SMILIES!!!)

Thanks for having this discussion. I agree that it would be nice if we could all keep a civil tone in our posts, since that would keep this forum more constructive. That's the ideal.
I also agree with no censorship. Keep it open for people to express their opinions. Profanity isn't necessary for that. Maybe a validation script on the post button could automagically scan for specific words? Just a thought.

I'm impressed by the concern expressed in this thread. Duster and Admins, thanks for it!
