Hi I'm new here. Has anyone ever tried out Bluehost? If so, what could you tell me about them? Positive and negative

Negative, if you are planning on running a decent forum then I would stick well away from them. I used them for a simple phpBB board and what did I get, nothing but slow, unresponsive connection speeds, support was louzy, and the issue was never fixed.
*******
Even though you never stated what you wanted, this was my experience with them - Sincerely regretted paying that year in advance.

Out of the blue, Bluehost.com shuts down FrogPants, a very popular podcast network, without any warning, for “using too much of their ‘unlimited’ bandwidth.”

I think most of their positive reviews are from those with no experience of other hosts. I would agree that most of their reviews seem negative at least on these forums.

I suppose in any place you are visiting you will never face a problem with finding their reviews. They are quite big and resounded name.

Bluehost is sort of similar to Hostgator in that they're a big host but unlike Hostgator they have loads of negative reviews as well as some positive reviews. Don't host something too serious with them.

Go with their reviews, and also make sure you read their ToS to know the real limits on resource usages. I don't have any experience with them, so really can't comment. But as said I've read some mixed reviews about them.

Marginally decent uptime in my experience (99.88% over a 1.5 years period). Server performance is not spectacular, and getting worse in the last 6 months or so, unfortunately.

They are not good for hosting dynamic sites.

I had bluehost and left a few years back. I was running an ecommerce site, and had too much downtime, and too many times the site would not work due to bluehost changing some configuration and not notifying me. Also, one time mysteriously my SSL certificate (that I know I initialed and was working perfectly for months) disappeared from their server! This happened during one of my busiest sales seasons. If you are using your site to make money, or for an important business site, go elsewhere and pay a little bit more for better performance.
I manage a friends hobby site showcasing her dogs that she breeds. That site is on bluehost, and she is very happy. This site is static content, and gets very little traffic per day. So, in my opinion, bluehost is fine for hobby sites and any other non-critical, light traffic, types of sites. Im talking about a 5-page static site telling about her dogs, not a 100 page site. But, the next site that I develop for someone in my dog club will not be on bluehost. With web-hosting being so inexpensive, I will put them with a more reliable host for about a dollar or so more per month.

Do a Twitter search on BlueHost and you will see what their clients are saying about with. Search @BlueHost, BlueHost or something along those lines.

The one biggest issue I have with Bluehost is the whole deal about the TOS clause that says you can't cuss on your own websites. I mean, I totally respect their right to have their own moral based rules for their business (well, Matt's business), and I may not even wind up cussing, but I do want that freedom when in case the call comes.
Come to think of it, I guess I actually *respect* him for risking loss of business to be able to live with himself for not selling out against what he believes in. I still won't use his hosting though.

One of the issues I have noticed with a twitter search is if you enter "Bluehost" (or any other "top ten" hosting company) into the search bar, for the most part the results will be affiliates promoting the company. All most all affiliates promoting a hosting company are going to paint you the rosiest picture they can even if the company is garbage. The majority of affiliates selling hosting on twitter are after only one thing and that is to make a sale. At times @bluehost is a decent indicator of how people feel about their service. Another technique is to use #bluehost combined with #fail, #good, #bad, etc to get an impression of the general customer satisfaction of clients.
