[cPanel] What do you use for backups, and what effect has it had on your business?

This question is a mixture of me researching products for our use, and being nosey about what everyone else does, to see if there is anything we can improve on how we operate currently.

Advanced apologies to the moderators if this should have been in the software section!

We're currently using R1Soft CDP 2.0 for backups for our clients, we're looking in to upgrading to v3 which has recently come out.

Before making any decisions though, I'm interested in what everyone else is using for their backups, or do you even take them for clients?

I'm interested in both shared hosts and VPS providers comments on this, what your processes are for backups, what software you use, why you chose that solution, and what effect has providing (or not) a backup solution had on your sales, if any?

Thanks,

Backup is something like insurance, you don't have to have it, but if something happens...

Backup files to the same server (even on a different disk) is not a good idea although 99% companies are doing that, if something happens, the whole server including your backup files might be gone.

Please try to read the question before responding... I did not ask what is a backup, I asked for suggestions of backup solutions, from people who are using them and what their experiences of these solutions has been.

We use R1Soft as well and we haven't found anything that can handle control panels and be a reasonable price like R1Soft. It also allows us to have one system handling VPS node backups and it can be used to backup pretty much anything we have.

We had previously been using just rsync or generated backups to an external system. It's just not as effective as R1Soft. I wish there was more competition in this space in terms of backup system that worked well with web hosting companies. There is no though but thankfully r1soft is reasonably priced and has the features we need.
