SCSI Controler Adaptec 7899 - Driver problem with Linux

    Hello

I have got a server with the following specs:

    Dual Xeon 2.4 Ghz
    6 Gb DDR ECC REG
    1 HD 147 Gb 15K

On the board, there is an SCSI adapter which is an Adaptec 7899.

This configuration is working perfectly under Windows 2003. However, as per customer request, I have to install CentOS, RedHat or Fedora. Even Debian is OK.

However, during the install, the OS find NO hard drives and the installation is aborted.

I googled some time and it looks that there is 1 million people looking for a solution on how to install Linux on a machine with an AIC-7899.

The installer loads a driver AIC-7XXX but didn't find the device anyway.

    Thank you for your help.

Since this post, I tried to install the following OS:

    - FreeBSD 6.2
    - CentOS 5-Beta
    - CentOS 4.4
    - CentOS 3.8
    - CentOS 2.1
    - Trustix
    - Debian 3.1

And many others I forgot about. None of them recognize the Adaptec 7899. All they have a bogus driver that loads (AIC7XXX SCSI) but no hard drive is detected.

Adaptec didn't provide any driver for this controler.

I am still looking, but this the very last time I buy a server with an Adaptec controller. I couldn't understand how they provide hardware but no drivers for them.

    whats the output of "lspci -v" and/or "lspci -v -n" ?

Does it have an onboard raid controller as well, or is it configured for RAID?
Does turning the RAID off (if applicable) enable you to see the disks when installing?
