    Cool SkyNetHosting Fail

After reading reviews for a few days and the responses from SkyNet I went ahead signed up for SkyNetHosting's VIP Reseller account. The 500GB storage on SSD and the 10TB bandwidth for only $25/month seemed like a no-brainer.

I signed up and received a flurry of emails but none had any account login info, so i waited another ten minutes or so and decided to go to support.

I opened a live chat and asked about activation details and he said it would be 2-6 hours until they would be sending this out. I couldn't believe my eyes...6 hours for activation.

I explained I had too much work to do today to be waiting until the end of the day to get this info asked why this wasn't presented beforehand.

He mentioned it was a fraud prevention thing and I suggested that he was failing my fraud check and that my only options were to sit back idly waiting or to move on after cancelling my order.

This is when he asked for my username and domain so he could let billing know to expedite my order. By this time I was having trouble believing him, but I went back to work waiting for my email.

After 2 hours went by, I decided to come back and check the status of the expedited order. When I hit the live chat button I was greeted with a 7 minute delay notice.

I spent the 7 minutes crafting my impressions of our budding new relationship in notepad when, all of a sudden, there was no live chat window.

I'm sorry but I really think this was intentional. Or such a bad coincidence suggesting the universe doesn't want me involved with this company for some reason.

So here it is almost five hours later and still no account activation.

This "No Instant Activation Policy" knowledgebase post was written in February 2007...I can't believe that in 7 years they haven't figured out another way to handle new accounts.

I told them to cancel my order but apparently I have to wait 12hrs for a reply from billing.

Sorry to hear about your problems with SkyNetHosting. Did they give any indication that there was suspected fraud that caused the delay in the first place? Or do you think they were just yanking you around? Even so, 6 hours is an unacceptable time to wait for them to do a fraud check, especially with a reseller hosting account.

To me that would be a no brainer as in something is not right. 500GB SSD for $25/monthly, not likely.

    You're right.

I second FernGullyGraphics: 500GB SSD for $ 25/mo? Absolutely unreliable, in every sense of the word.

I've had to wait 24 hours to have my account activated! their support staff aren't always reliable. But up time has been great 100% three months and running which is good.

I've also got 500gb but not ssd haven't come across anything unusual yet.

I saw other providers offering ssd for similar prices too. atm crissic are doing 40gb ssd vps for $24 p/y. if you do the maths you can get 400gb ssd for $240p/y.

I don't doubt that offers exist, just keep in mind that any such offers are either badly oversold or unsustainable. Take a look at the prices of enterprise grade SSD drives, that should give you a better idea of what pricing will work long-term.

That's just awful. It appears that they don't have a good payment gateway with fraud prevention checks. You should definitely look elsewhere.

I don't think it is pure SSD drives ,might be kind of hybrid SSD or SATA drives in place of SSDs ! Moreorless ,same provider only confirm what's real .

They know the customer will never use 500GB " Its eye Appealing" just like " Unlimited" is but for some miraculous reason they do use all 500GB or even close to it, I guarantee they get shut down.

Couldn't agree more, how much disk space are you currently using? maybe you need to look at a more realistic hosting provider with more realistic quotas.

The refund may take a while but they will give it to you.

    @Everyone

their marketing technique is not different than most of the hosting companies out there. It´s just a variation of the "unlimited" deal.
As for the SSD, there are tons of providers out there promoting that on shared hosting, just like other technologies that should speed up their customers accounts... but then they increase the number of customers per server.. so.. the only ones taking a real advantage of this technologies are the hosting companies not their customers.

And before you get all crazy, i am not accusing anyone in particular, just saying this is common practice.

Do i agree to it? hell no.

I just got it this morning, so thanks. No one expects instant, but even you have to admit 6hrs is excessive. Well, maybe you don't.

If it ain't there, it ain't there mate. Setting up instant provisioning is not difficult and almost every billing system offer it, but with the recent increase in abuse and fraud quite a few providers do this. I feel this issue was a result of miscommunication and something that could have been sorted out easily.

Lets explain this with an example. Now take one of the hosts in your signature, they pay about $125 for referring a customer.

Then assume you host 50 clients on a server, so that's $125 X 50 = $6250 of affiliate commissions to fill up one server. Now assume you invest that money on SSD's and create a plan so good that the plan sell's itself? wouldn't that be a better idea? Just something to think about

Many host do not activate orders instantly due to fraudulent orders. I do not see the fault at Skynet side.
