Supermicro IPMI Card - (AOC-IPMI20-E) or 3rd party Remote Reboot port?

Any experiences with Supermicro IPMI Card - (AOC-IPMI20-E)? I need basic Power managment like APC reboot ports.

Since its very likely that we will get some Supermicro servers, I thought why not add the IPMI card. Any experiences, Good or bad?

    Thanks
    ^_^

I've used SuperMicro's IPMI with great success.

I'd recommend doing it the way SoftLayer does it -- put each server on a remote reboot strip (so if the IPMI card happens to lock up, you can restart it), and then use the IPMI card for normal management.

Make sure you are getting the correct IPMI card for your motherboard -- they aren't all the same. Also I would recommend getting the IPMI card with separate NIC, those seem to be more reliable than the ones that share the motherboard's NIC.

    Hello,
I would like to say, that I am IMPRESSED by Supermicro IPMI card.
I have 2 different cards for my servers. AOC-LPIPMI-LANG and AOC-SIM1U(+).

The first one only support console redirect, but the second one is KVM over IP. It is just amazing. I mounted local cd-rom and upgrade my windows to 2008 version remotely. The both cards supports power remote control also.

You can see some screenshots of KVM over IP features in my flickr account. I still can not post url here, so please send me a private message to send you back link with the photos.

please be aware that only Intel 3010, 3210, 5000P, 5400 chipset based supermicro server boards support "plus" version (KVM-over-LAN) IPMI cards. specifically, 3000/3200/5000V/5100 chipset based board won't support KVM-over-LAN, just non-plus version of IPMI cards (media-over-LAN).

the IPMI20-E in subject line can't do KVM-over-LAN.
