Rolling Stone article that exposes some of the worst people in this country

    http://www.rollingstone.com/politics...teens-20120202

Everyone should read this Rolling Stone article I came across this morning. If you believe this type of treatment is acceptable to any human being, you should be locked away. Absolutely atrocious. If you pray, you should pray for the souls of those 9 dead kids.

It is a tough issue. As a teacher, I can vouch for the fact that bullying occurs frequently at school -- for virtually any difference imaginable. On the other hand, bullying is also very difficult to effectively address on a school level.

People have been killing themselves since the dawn of time
What is so special about gays that they deserve their own attention? What is so special about teens that they deserve their own attention?

The reality is that those doing this are nothing more than weak. They are the ones that can't handle the real world. Bullying isn't an excuse to kill yourself, it exists everywhere (in and out of school), nor is any political garbage going to stop it. That will only make the issue worse.

I'm not saying bullying is great, or even decent. HOWEVER, nothing is going to stop a bully, and this type of article only builds them up, encouraging their actions.

Unfortunately, this is what we've driven ourselves to as a society. We encourage individuals to 'participate' by giving them trophies for barely doing that, we award the weak by giving them trophies to make them feel special. When it comes to reality, however, they're just not equipped to handle it.

I totally agree with you that killing yourself because of bullying is "stupid".

While i was in a school i was fat, and from time to time kids did pick on me, and when they would i would just smile at them. And that would be maybe one kid out of 100.

And in this case i would say it was much more then "1 out of 100" kids. Also, kids like to make fun out of other kids. So i (now) understand why did they pick on me, or someone with big glasses (or anything like that). But when kid is being bullied because they are gay, black (other race), Jewish (other religion), Atheist etc.

In those cases i do not see anything that could be "funny" for the bully. They are doing what they learned at home. If you ask 5 year old kids if they think "liking" other boy/girl is a bad thing, i am sure majority of them wont see a problem with that. Because in that age their brain is still not shaped by their parents and people around them about that subject (or at least i hope so).

I agree and disagree. I agree that bullying can occur elsewhere, but I also think that school has a very high rate of bullying that would not be tolerated in workplaces.

I suppose one could make arguments in either direction, though.

You are correct that bullying in school goes on much higher than it would in a workplace, but there's just so much more than school and work when daily lives are to be considered. You're looking at about 8 hours a day, either way, more if you're on a college campus (and don't even try to tell me that bullying doesn't go on there ).

The thing is though that this is a social issue, it's an individual issue that leads back to how the person was raised. if the person is brought up thinking this kind of attitude is ok, then they go through their lives thinking they can push their way through, force their own opinions on someone else, bully others into dooing things they want them to do.

The smartest way to handle a bully (from personal experience), just ignore them. Step away, back away from the situation, and ignore them. Sure, this'll make 'em upset, but this will also let them know you can't be bullied.

The worst thing you can do when confronted by a bully, or a bullying situation is let them win. Give them your lunch money, they come back every day. Take your own life, they go after others. Give them what they want, they learn this is an acceptable way of life.

Like I said, politics really aren't ever going to change bullying. Nothing will remove it, except for reinforcement from parents, peers, teachers, being shown that this is not an acceptable manner of going about life.
