    Minecrafted.net Dedicated Server?

    Hello,

I've been meaning to purchase a dedicated server for my Minecraft community and I was browsing the MinecraftForum when I came across this host. Minecrafted.net is offering:

    E3-1270 Quad Core @ 3.40GHz
    16GB RAM
    1TB SATA
    1Gbps Port (10TB BW)
    Dedicated IP

    $59/mo
To me this seems fishy but also a great deal. They state in the post that they own all their own hardware and that's why they sell their servers so cheap. Two people have already purchased their dedicated servers and have had no problems with them. Basically what I'm asking is if this company can be trusted and if I should purchase their dedicated server or stay away from them.

With prices so low I would definitely question how well their service is. Have those two customers left a review on how well the service has been?

    Yes they have left reviews:

    Hey guys,
Im currently using a dedicated server from these guys and just wanted to drop a quick review.
Setup time was approx 20 hours. Not too bad for a dedicated server! As always, being dedicated i had to install everything which is ok because i know linux however if you arent very familiar with it, shoot me a PM and ill help you out
No lag for me at all! If you want a dedicated server, these are the guys to get it from!
I PM'ed this person to see if they actually bought one because he stated he was considering purchasing one.

My friend bought one he is letting me test it out. So far it is fine, got the server online and it works fine with just me.
Another piece of information: They collocate with Database by Design, LLC.

That is indeed a very low price.
I wonder where their margin is.

The server might work great, but I'm not sure they will be in business for long if they go that route.

Those prices are very low and if you think about it, cost for the hardware you're looking at around $900-1200 depending on the drives used and case.

That's almost 16 months before that is paid off that's without taking in support, and colocation fees.

I'd suggest holding off for a while and seeing if they are able to stay in business just to be safe.

I would be hesitant at that pricing as you never know where they could end up in the next few months.

Thanks for the feedback, I'll wait a little while and wait for some more reviews.

They won't for 13 - 15 months (The time it takes for the server hardware to be paid off). And even then you have to take into account the costs for colocation (space, electricity, and network) support techs, and spare parts in case hardware failures.

Unless they got the hardware practically for free, there's no way for them to make money on that, at least not for the first year or so.

Strange if you look at the Whois it shows database by design's phone number. Are they the same business? The little information on their site is a little sketchy.

^^ just to clarify, MineCrafted.NET is a customer of ours as they state. The domain whois did show our phone number since we purchased the domain a while back. It has recently been sold to MineCrafted.NET as a separate entity unrelated to Database By Design, LLC. We've instructed them to change the information.

    Thanks for the heads up!

Thank you for clearing that up. It still seems quite sketchy to me.

I still don't see how they would be able to make money on something like this, we've done huge buys on servers 50-100 even with that if you don't own the data center it would be pretty hard to offer those prices.

It is rather interesting that database used to own that domain name, really makes you wonder.

Yeah, as soon as I saw it I was skeptical.

I currently have a few Dedicated servers with these guys and have had 0 issues so far! - Fast ticket response and no network or hardware issues. If you have any questions about my time with them I'd be glad to talk to you through PM.

I find it a bit odd they both offer basically the same servers for the same price. I questioned it tonight in their thread - http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/...red-srv-avail/ but it was deleted by a moderator due to me being a host too, posting in another host's thread is a big no-no.

But for sure some things don't add up. DBD is currently having a sale here on WHT on 1270's 1st 3 months 79.50 and as you can see in that thread, MC'd is offering the same 1270's for $79.00 and no increase after 3 months. How are they selling even cheaper then the company that owns the data center. Makes you wonder if they "forgot" and left the part out on the MC thread that oh yeah in 3 months, your server fee will double.

DBD says that MC'd purchased the domain from them. Seems kind of odd. I mean really, what are the chances of a data center having a domain for sale on the niche a client is suddenly going to start putting all these servers in your data center, not to mention having so many servers they can under cut what the data center is selling the exact servers for.

In DBD's thread, right now they have a hex core server up for auction. Almost the exact specs of the hex core servers MC'n uses for their shared nodes.

They have ignored all questions and requested all posts regarding why the WhoIS was not only just the phone number, but the entire address and using Database By Design as the company name. When it was pointed out it was quickly updated to a PO Box and company name changed but until next update left DBD's phone number. Along with that they also ignored all questions of proof of the new LLC they claimed to have received last week, so it could be compared to DBD's LLC record. Why are they having these posts removed.. Shady and hiding something..

Enjoy those $5.00 a GB server while they last, but keep your data backed up so when they disappear in the night, you still have your maps and things. Then again DBD could just say were sorry we lied at first and we are indeed the same company to give MC'd a but more creditbility of not just suddenly disappearing during the night.
