Just wondering *this* bulletin board is a very popular one coz many other sites use the almost the same board, (eg. SitePoint, HostSearch...)
Is this board a script or something? Is it free or how much does it cost? Where can I get it?
Thanks!

This forum uses vBulletin: http://vBulletin.com. It seems to be the current favorite among the low-cost forums programs. See this discussion too, as well as the middle link in my signature: http://webhostingtalk.com/showthread.php?threadid=3590

Slight erratum : HostSearch uses the fantastic ASP-based UBB clone - Snitz Forums 2000. You can check it out at http://forum.snitz.com
vBulletin uses PHP/MySQL, while Ultimate Bulletin Board/Infopop uses Perl. A search of the forums will reveal plenty of other good forums.My 2 Cents.... (or is that 2.2 cents inc. GST...?)

I like snitz until you reply to a message and get that odd box. Yeah, you can choose the font, etc., but I don't like it.

Snitz is the current version of the older and very buggy ASP-Dev that was used for this board for a while. The new version also seems to be pretty buggy, judging by the number of times the forums using it that I monitor go down.

By comparison to other programs, of course. Some cost several hundred dollars. Just because the free ones may be the only ones in your price range does not change the relative price relationship.

Some cost several hundred dollars
And others cost several thousand dollars, and others cost in five and six figures. A friend getting community software online for a major computer-related publisher looked at packages ranging up to $140,000, I believe he said.Deb Suran

Absolutely. I came across some of them 2 years ago when I looked at the available programs at the time. I saw one or two (that I recall) in the $100,000+ range. I discarded all the 4 figure and up programs from consideration and did not allude to them here.
After all, when someone thinks a Ford Escort is too expensive, there; sno need to mention the Rolls Royces, Bentleys, Maseratis, Lamborghinis, and other stratospherically priced models.
It can help you realize that the Escort is not so highly priced after all, even if beyond reach at the moment. :-)Techcellence - Business Specialists and Information Resource

My personal fav is ikonboard located at http://www.ikonboard.com
<short blurb from their site>The new, totally free bulletin board system
Ikonboard is free for anyone to use, personal, non-profit and commercial.
<end blurb>
I can't say that its bugfree or anything like that, but I prefer it since it offers almost all of the features that I need. The one downside, is that it's not a mysql board, so files are stored as plain text files and if your board is large it could cause slowdowns or corrupt data should it get too large. Thats my personal thought on it, though Ive been known to be wrong in the past about many things.
