    Non-US SSL certificate authorities

Am I right in saying that there are no companies outside the US issuing SSL certificates?

Globalsign seems to be based or has been based in Canada but details of their own cert reveal they are based in the US.

Some of the companies have offices in different companies but as you said, I can't think of any one that isn't based in the USA or who's main market isn't the USA.

    hello,

I think that there are many local CA.

Here is an example in Poland:

As dinek pointed out, you should perhaps widen your search parameters.

There're, but the most popular ones are US based. Just change your search term and try again on google.

We use GlobeSSL, which also has an Israel office, besides the US one.

But why would you be looking for a non-US SSL provider?

The only one I know of, (and have used) is http://www.startssl.com/. They are based in Israel. The disadvantage with them is, that older computers and some devices don't quite work with them. But any new windows computer, or one that has been receiving updates will work. Mac and Firefox, also work well with them. Personally I just use them internally or when I know the people using the service will have the StartSSL root CA.

How does it matter, almost all these companies have got offshore development centres where all the core work is done.

If he's looking for it, he's either looking to support a more local authority or just interested in knowing.

That might be the case, but how much do you really think will benefit the community if he decides to buy SSL certificates from a local seller.

And would it not be rational to go with a seller who is reknown rather buying from a company just because it is registered there.

    Just my two cents.

Yes and it's his 9+ dollars so he can realistically spend it where he likes. You are right that choosing a CA that is in every OS and browser by default is a good idea though.
