Hey, I have a blog that gets about 50,000 unique users a month and I'm looking for a host that would fit the bill. I'm using wordpress so that's obviously a requirement, but also I would like RoR support. Other than that I'm pretty open. My fear is just that I'll get relegated to a slow server or have my account suspended. My budget is really whatever I need to pay. I'd like to find something at $15 a month or under but I'm willing to pay up to $50 or more if need be.
I'm planning on growing the traffic more in the future so I'm not sure if I should just go for dedicated hosting now or wait. I've checked out hostgator and they seem to have good reviews and fit the bill well, I'm just not sure if they are suited for high traffic sites or not.
    Thanks

You should find good offers in the Offers Section (http://www.webhostingtalk.com/forumdisplay.php?f=4). Also, you could try to describe your current plan, size, bandwidth used at the moment, etc.
Because of TOS, no provider will be approaching you here to offer hosting, but for starters, the offers section (http://www.webhostingtalk.com/forumdisplay.php?f=4) I recommended above will help you.

    Thanks,
Well I wasn't exactly looking for an offer but rather if a host like that would be fitting. I've read through a lot of posts here and it seemed that this is how the questions were asked. I'm not really sure what to do for sites with higher traffic, so I figured I'd throw it out there. If that was wrong I do apologize.

No need to apologize. I just tried to guide you to a possible solution. Also, gih traffic sites like yours, if monetized correctly, can earn your hosting fee by far and maybe you could even get a dedicated server, not to share machine with anyone else.
This si where you have to figure out what your budget is, what your monthly costs are and how much money you get now from monetizing your current site.
    Good luck!

I'm keeping my high traffic sites with iMountain. They can also provide you with memcache for better wordpress performance under heavy load.
Are you using wp-cache or some other caching plugin on your wordpress?

With WP cache or Super cache and not bogus addon/hack/plugins you should be fine in a shared host, we host a blog with over 65000 unique monthly without any problem.

It is very important to provide more information about the service and software environment you want to use alongside with WordPress. For a website that gets 50k unique it is probably tim to move for low cost VPS. It will allow you to start growing faster. Of course any reliable shared hosting still works for you. Go to offerings and pick up some names. Them search for reviews.

If you need more control over the environment, yes, it is an option, but if computing power is a concern, a small VPS is not the first thing that comes to mind.
I'm just not sure if they are suited for high traffic sites or not. Ask for their opinion with regard to your current usage, and maximum usage they feel to be sustainable in their shared hosting environment - make sure you mention it if you're using WP-cache, or other plugins that can influence the load your site places on the server.

And be sure to click that "Find a Host" button above. Hosts will come right to your inbox with quotes.

If you are planning to host a high traffic blog where resource is a problem, I suggest not to go with HG as they have a fixed amount of resource usage limit.

have a look at eukhost (http://www.eukhost.com), dont let the fact that they are UK based put you off, i have friends in the states that host with them and they tell me that they get far better service than with many of US hosts,
well worth a look, certainly never had any bother with them

Can we know what is your blog's URL?
(Not that I'm suspicious, but I just want to make people sure that it's not, for example, a warez/porn blog. It's better that we know now than being suspended later for violating the host's AUP).

I think it should be enough assurance if the OP states it isn't. It's not like he's hosting it on your server.
The number of unique visits is a poor indicator. They could all be loading a static page once and then leave. Do you have resource usage data and logs? Total hits/visits per day?

My intention was to prevent suggesting hosts which can't host his blog.
