Getting something for free but it isn't really free?
I wanted to raise the question and hear/read your feedback on something I recently noticed which in my book is false advertising.
This is the case:
An advertiser in this forum offers something for free/included in the package if you signup with them.
But to be able to use this feature you will have to buy additional services from this advertiser......
Sorry if this sounds cryptic, I have left out the resellers name and specificly what they offered but its needed for the discussion I can post it.
Ideas, thoughts, suggestions ...
thank you
MikHo

Well think of the normal situation (without offer): you would have to pay for a static IP and the SSL certificate.
So if you're using the offer, you're getting something for free.

the thing that annoys me is when hosts say things like $9.99 a month!!
and in tiny print (if you pay 12 months in advance)

Hi,
The SSL is still free and you need a dedicated IP for an SSL so I would say it does what it says on the tin.
Although maybe a:-
*purchase of a dedicated IP is required
Would make it clearer and fairer?

People, please, stop using the word free, I think you're being naive. The proper word is "included".

I would see your point if you were paying $20 for the dedicated IP.
But if its say, $1.50 for the IP and you get the ssl certificate included, thats a pretty nifty deal as ssl certificates go for a minimum of around $18.
Yes, your paying them more money than you had initially planned, having to add another (paid for) resource to get the bundled product but you are still getting what they advertised, they just "forgot" to mention you had to buy the ip to go along with it.
Best of luck█ IT Support - Business Hosting & VOIP Solutions Scotland
