    On the Front Line

Since Sunday, I have been up here in the BWCA (Boundary Waters Canoe Area) providing Satellite Internet and Phones for the Incident Command Post for the Cavity Lake Forest Fire.

The fire, as of this morning covers 19,800 acres, and is growing still. I think this is really cool being out here around all these fire fighters, watching the air attach helicopters (Helicopters with water buckets) and air tankers. The Army National Guard is providing a couple Blackhawks Helicopters to help with air-attack, so I'm looking forward to taking pictures of those when they arrive.

I'm currently acting as a consultant/sub-contractor for a client of mine (tacticalsatellite.com) that does emergency response communications. I helped them build their deployable TLAN (Tactical LAN). So I get to be up here, being a geek on a Forest Fire incident, and my sysadmin holds the fort back at the office.

I'm blogging about this, and will be posting pics on my site (www.aaronabramson.com) for any who are interested in this kind of stuff. I'm hoping to get lots of pics and video clips. The incident looks like it might be a month long, if thats the case, I'll probbaly get a chance to go up in one of the helicopters and get some pics of the fire itself.

The fire is currently burning about 3 miles southwest of the ICP basecamp, so if the winds change, we might be evacuating back down the road.
