I've had several books and never really learned much from them. They were just walk through tutorials where you follow the commands they give.
Heres a decent online "cheat sheet" for SSH: http://www.pixelbeat.org/cmdline.html

I have that pocket book as well as the Essential System Administration one, pretty decent pocket sized books (for reference)!
But I think to use them, you need a grasp of what you want to achieve.

I have the pocket version of that book. If you like the look of the O'Reilly books you can maybe sign up to their web service instead of buying them. I forgot the name of it, if someone knows what I'm talking about.. chime in!
Maybe try setting up Apache,PHP,MySQL,DNS and Email? Should get you comfortable with command line, try not to use yum/apt-get!
