    ServerPronto is a joke

Over a year and 6 months ago I ordered a cheap server from Server Pronto. I used it for about a week because it was junk (although they make me pay for 3 months upfront) so I sent in a letter (they require you to send in their cancellation letter through the mail, probably to trap people into 3 more months of hosting) so about a week later I got the letter back in the mail because the address did not exist. So I contacted their support and they told me to Fax them the letter, which I did, and they canceled my server. NOW.. over a year later, I just got an email from them stating that I owe them money and they were sending me to a collection agency. I'm thinking, "You've got to be kidding me." So now I'm sitting on their site trying to contact someone and I've been on hold for over 15 minutes. Someone is going to go down if this hurts my non-existent credit score.
BTW: My server was canceled a full month ahead of time.

That's the same exact thought I had when I read the email. The weird this is.. i logged into my account and it says "Total Due: $0.00" Hopefully it's just a mistake or something.

you better screenshot that and make sure that it stays that way. Thats really bad business ethics if they are going to try to collect money from you, for something your didn't USE, and a year after your service was canceled.

Here's my cancellation ticket from way back when. I'm not even sure if there's anyone on livechat. I've had the livechat window open for 2 hours now without a response. lol

Hey nice Windows 7 by the way in the screenshot ! Do they have your social security number. I personally would just wait for collections. And then tell the collection agency the debts not valid and that they have to cease til they can prove it.

Maybe mail them a letter again to there address that doesn't exist.

BUT If they try to charge your credit card call them ahead of time and alert them. And try to have your credit card find there previous charge so they can block them from being able to bill again.

    Thanks. lol

    I'm not sure.

Both the credit card and the bank account that I paid this with no longer exist. Which brings it to the "Should we be unable to get approval with the credit card on file, your personal account information will be automatically transmitted to the credit reporting services, Equifax and Experian." part of the email.

I would try contacting them again and ask for a manager. Thats just irresponsible for server pronto to do that period.

I got that same email and I haven't been a customer of theirs for over two years. Guess I'll be calling them as well tomorrow.

    same story here...

I closed my account in january 2006 ! almost 4 years ! and they sent me the same email today... this is probably a programing error that sent a email to all their old clients. I guess that they will receive a lot of reply and phone calls in the next couple of days ! I don't expect to receive any answer from them

I got it too - 3 years after closing my account with them. What an absolute insult. You can be sure I'm not going to be as nice about it as some of you all are.

There billing system isn't too reliable. I had a server with them (the cheap one that i used for dns, email and a few experimental websites) a few years ago which was being paid for with paypal, one month there was a problem on there end and i had to pay with credit card. For the next 3 months they charged both paypal and CC, then after that i had 5 months of not paying anything and there billing panel saying i was still in credit with them. Next i was several months worth in the red with them.

I ended up paying what i actually owed them and canceling the server with them as i was fed up with there faulty billing system. (them having problems with paypal should have probably sent up warning lights)

I filed a complaint with the BBB in Florida

Reason: Over-billing, double-billing and refusal to cancel services.

    Summary Information:

    (1) I was a customer of this company in 2004. During that time I was overcharged for services in the form of billing mistakes which were always in their favor. Following the procedures they had in place at the time, I canceled the services.

    (2) If my memory serves me correctly, I had to pay for an additional month of service and I have correspondence that shows an agreed upon cancellation date. My account according to my information was closed in good standing with no additional charges.

    (4) 4-5 years later I receive an email from them (first one in all of this time) that my "inactive account has an outstanding balance" that they are threatening to report to the credit reporting agencies.

    Desired Result:

Because I shouldn't have to waste any time with this company, I am requesting the following from the Company and I assume this is some kind of mistake, but just to be safe I requested the following from them.

    (1) Provide documentation of all correspondence and payment history on the account for the calendar year of 2004.

    (2) Provide a copy of their cancellation procedures from the year 2004 as they have been updated over the previous years and their current requirements would not have applied to the account in question.

    (3) Provide documentation that shows that there was an unpaid balance as of JAN 05, 2005.

    (4) Provide documentation of their efforts to notify me over that past 4-5 year of this debt.

    Personal Experiences with InfoLink (ServerPronto):

While I am not one to complain in public forums about problems with vendors and companies that I do or have done business with, this one really got to me. I ordered two servers from ServerPronto back in 2004 to do some data processing work.

    (1) I am not sure that their dedicated servers are really dedicated for example, I would start processing files on one server and my other server would become unresponsive.

    (2) If you lost connectivity on a Friday night -- you couldn't get anything fixed or done until Monday morning.

    (3) Pretty much every month I had the service they were always making billing mistakes and charging my card for over $1K each time.

    (4) They charged excessive fees for traffic between servers I got a bill for $1,000+ for transfering files between the two machines (which were probably on the same server)

    (5) When I canceled the service in October or November of 2004 -- I paid the extortion fee and set a future date of JAN 05,2005. I hadn't heard anything from this company until now. In the years that have transpired I learned through the complaints of others that the problems I experienced were pretty much SOP for them.

That's nothing. I filed a complaint with the BBB demanding an apology and official statement of what happened and what they're doing to prevent it happening again.

oops, looks like someone has made quite a big billing error if multiple people are getting this. Let's hope this is a mistake and they apologise and fix it.

cabalstudios: Knowing them beforehand, this is not a mistake but rather intentional, those guys live off those more-than-shady practices of over and wrongbilling. No surprise they can sell at those "low prices" and not even care about customers' power usage.

Probably they have some short cash and are trying to capture more.

My bad wasn't aware of that, I hope you all get this sorted one way or another.

I signed up with this company due to their advertised prices and 48-hour server setup time. When I didn't hear anything from them after seven days I contacted their support team. When I still didn't hear anything back, I contacted the credit card company of the card that I used to initially sign up and filed a chargeback. Over a year later now I am receiving threatening e-mails from them accusing me that I have an unpaid balance. This is the only correspondence I have ever received from them. I contacted their phone lines to inquire about the balance. I received no answers on multiple phone calls. I contacted their support and sales teams, neither of them will provide me with an actual account balance (go figure, I never should have had one as I never received any server or product from them), yet they are still sending harassing e-mails attempting to "collect". Having spoken with others in the industry, my experience is far from singular and is apparently quite common with this company. They fail to provide services, attempt to keep billing, and then try to bully people by threatening their credit reports to try and collect unreasonable (or in my case, unwarranted) fees.

I wouldn't worry too much about these guys - for starters they appear to actually a Panamanian company hiding behind a proxy domain registration and mail forwarding service:

    Code:
      Administrative Contact, Technical Contact:
          Infolink Panama S.A. uh8tc4at83v@networksolutionsprivateregistration.com
          ATTN: INFOLINK.COM
          c/o Network Solutions
          P.O. Box 459
          Drums, PA 18222
          570-708-8780
Secondly, they have a long and illustrious history of erroneous billing practises - evidence of which can be found on many, many threads posted on WHT.

Finally, they certainly won't bother actually attempting to contact any credit reporting agency because

    a) the point above about them being an offshore company hiding behind proxies makes their reputation and reports worthless and liable to be entirely ignored.

    b) the email is intended only to scare non-payers (alleged or otherwise) into payment.

So let's all have a quiet chuckle at them ;-)
