Can anyone tell me if these sometime expensive SEO software packages are any good and if so which would be recommended?

    I'd appreciate any views, thanks

    Hi there,

What softwares are you referring to?
I've heard great things about places such as Seomoz, however their services are web based as opposed to application based.

My view on this is that they often apply basic principles that do not make you stand out from the crowd.
If their service/solution for SEO was so good, they would keep it for themselves and open whatever site they want and make a bunch of money.

What softwares are you referring to?
I was looking at software such as : IBusiness Promoter, Web CEO, SEO Studio etc...

I wonder if an online service may be better (but much more expensive!)

If you're not using a sitemap, I feel comfortable recommending Attracta as an SEO solution.

You might give RavenTools a look. I don't use it, but one of my clients uses it for his SEO business and loves it.

I suppose what I am wanting is something that will aide me in building good SEO - something that might examine my site and tell me what's good and what's bad, from the perspective of something/someone who has knowledge of SEO. From what I gather from your great responses is that I maybe need to just take some time and do it myself - and save myself some money. I checked out services like Ravenstools and Attracta but they can get quite expensive over a long period...

The better option is to build quality backlinks manually.

Now SEO is all about manual work, people are finding very hard even with manual work, how can you do it with automated tool or software?

    It seems impossible.

Software doesn't work for SEO. I will recommend to do it manually. Use social bookmarking, directories submission, Forums, Blog commenting and Article submission.

For social bookmarking, forum profile account creation, web 2,0 and article submission you can try sick submitter.

With SEO programs, they usually do not do much of anything you cannot already do yourself. Trusting your SEO to software or services may not be best unless you understand exactly what it is doing.

Ideally, you want software or services that do the same thing you would do, but then you are basically paying for it to be done faster, or while you work on something else.

This is a good point. And to look at it another way -- if 1000 web hosting companies all use the same software for the same keywords, what order are all 1000 hosts going to appear in the search results (if they all used the same technique)?

There are lots of software depending on what service you are looking for. The expensive software, the better can be used in seo.

Some software if overdone can actually make your site ranking worse. To save money, I'd advise buying gigs off of Fiverr and that way you also get to pick what type of SEO you need and have more control than having it all automated.

I wouldn't recommend automated software for SEO. Too Spammy

    SEO Software?

According to me SEO software are not good for long term and are expensive too so it is better to go for manual work.

Dear you can't do that much manual work ? May I know how do you find backlinks of competitors manually ? How do you track social mentions of your website ?
