Your BuyVM
So what is everyone doing with their BuyVM VPS(s)?
I scrambled to picked up 4 servers at the pm stock release on Saturday (2 512 KVM, 2 128 OVZ), and man they are awesome. Stock went really fast. There was a ton of people in IRC waiting for stock lol, never seen anything like it for another VPS provider.
@Francisco, is there any ETA on storage plans?0

Nah, I was sick of waiting for their stock and with with KiloServe. $3/month and could not be happier with their speed and uptime.
Appears BuyVM has stock now, but wow their prices don't seem to cheap like everyone makes it out to be. $40 for 2048 Mb KVM?...0

Storage plans still need some work, I've asked and have received a general ETA of a few weeks.
Here's a little list of what I use my servers for:
- HTTP Services (Usually with nginx)
- DNS Services (Usually with nsd)</li>
- IRC-related Services (Usually with Eggdrop, Charybdis, Atheme, weechat, ...)
- Mail Services (No specific 'favorite' yet)
- Torrent Services (Usually with transmission-daemon) [Yes, legal torrents. I seed linux ISOs. Sadly new versions came up and I lost my old stats. It was around 1TB seeded]
- VPN Services (Usually with OpenVPN)
- Some others I may have forgotten at this time this was written...
I also like to separate services/some websites with multiple containers0

I only wonder why they don't provide addon like cpanel or directadmin because they can sell with internal price, it's better for their clients

Not everyone uses cPanel, especially on a lower end VPS. There is *no* need for me to use a control panel when I can do it all via the CLI, save on memory and, most importantly, save my money. They offer a discount through a 3rd party though. "Industry standard" is a laughable term, in my opinion - it's all based on the need/knowledge of the client. Many of the people in a LEB community don't use a control panel at all - they find scripts, do it manually, or ask others for advice and learn along the way.

Sure, in control panels - but not necessarily for the 'low end' section of the industry. Many members who choose lower resource containers don't use a control panel, or choose something free such as webmin/virtualmin. It also may shock you to hear that many run lighttpd/nginx instead of apache. Yes, it is nice they offer a discount. My 'main' point is that attempting to conform to an industry standard isn't usually the best option - one should look at options available and choose the one most suited to them rather than hopping on the industry bandwagon.

Why would I run cPanel when it would cost me more than just the $10/month for the license? I'd need a bigger VPS too. My current setup with nginx, php-fpm and MySQL uses less than 64MB of ram almost all the time. The lowest I ever got the ram usage with a cPanel server was around 300mb. I like having my forum bring in more money from ads each month than I have to pay for the VPS running it each year.
I don't use any BuyVM VPSs because I don't really like OpenVZ with low amounts of RAM and the 128mb KVM can't install CentOS.0

I'm using mine for testing. I'm actually happier with the speeds from 123Systems, to be honest. The BuyVM VPS is unavailable from time to time. I've yet to isolate the problem or submit a ticket on it.

Yeah Don't use IRC so no idea of how their IRC channel is, but yes stock flies through!
I have from buyvm 3x 512MB OpenVZ for a project of mine http://centminmod.com and for this round of stock grabbed a 1x 1GB OpenVZ for front end varnish cache test server. Love how they also provide an internal ip for each VPS so I can properly network my VPS for load balancing, mysql replication (via tungsten replicator) etc.: CentminMod.com Nginx Installer Nginx 1.25, PHP-FPM, MariaDB 10 CentOS (AlmaLinux/Rocky testing)
: Centmin Mod Latest Beta Nginx HTTP/2 HTTPS & HTTP/3 QUIC HTTPS supports TLS 1.3 via OpenSSL 1.1.1/3.0/3.1 or BoringSSL or QuicTLS OpenSSL

"Across the board" is not an apples to apples comparison. LEBs needs to be considered in isolation since it is a very price-sensitive segment and hence has strict resource limitations. control panels make no sense on a 128mb vps. my vps isn't any worse because it lacks a cPanel.

Also, not everyone uses their VPSs for webservers. My biggest VPS is used for a Minecraft server.

It was a bit of a laugh when I got one about 15 minutes before buyvm released stock this weekend :-)
But I suspect that was just coincidence and in in general, I don't think it's fair to characterize 123 as "desperate". I get an average of about 1 email per month (my impression, I haven't really kept track). They announce new promos, new stock, new plans. I think it's just basic marketing.0

Everyone who offers "free" cPanel bakes it into the price. If your account comes with a "free" cPanel license, it's generally $10/month higher than a comparable VPS without.
Besides, as has been pointed out already, not everyone needs/wants cPanel. I'd rather do things myself and not have it chewing up RAM and CPU.0

The super-premium guys (linode, 6sync) charge $80/month for a 2GB KVM (with a lot less disk and bandwidth). $40 for an unmanaged, high-uptime KVM with good performance, lots of disk, and lots of BW is a pretty good deal.
I think that's the BuyVM niche - pretty good prices, good performance, great reputation.
If you want cheaper, it's certainly out there...0

I don't much either, but if you go to their web site and click "chat with us", you'll be linked to a web-based IRC client that works very nicely (mibbit).
Love how they also provide an internal ip for each VPS so I can properly network my VPS for load balancing, mysql replication (via tungsten replicator) etc.

Probably should send that then
I know we've had reports of two nodes acting a little odd and randomly dropping their network for a few seconds, it's on the TODO list for today.
cPanel has been on our 'maybe' list for a while. It's really up to my billing staff if they want to deal with the extra work load of keeping track of all of it. I think we could do well with it, just haven't got the final OK from it.
Our KVM offerings aren't really targetted at the lowend market. While we have 2 plans that fall under the $7/m usual pricing, most people picking up KVM plans from us are looking for affordable alternatives to linode and the other big boys. Our KVM plans offer more space than all of them as well as more bandwidth for usually about half, if not lower, cost.
Our higher end plans take longer to sell, but they do all sell out within a week or so For the rest of our KVM stock, we added something like 80 - 90 plans and they were all gone in an hour.
