Post When is a Dedicated Server a good option for you?

Dedicated servers offer the most personalized hosting experience for a business, but is it really a good option for the prices paid? Maybe so; they can offer so much more than just the full monty of web hosting, and can even prove to be more cost-effective than other hosting options available today. Maintenance, add-ons, and plenty of other features will ensure a business will get a healthy return investment in the long run.

Before you take the plunge into a dedicated server, it might be wise to understand just what it does for you and your business. There are plenty of reasons why it is a good option for people wanting to make a profit, but there is more to it than simply being the most flexible and user-oriented choice on the market. Here is why the dedicated server is a great choice for the entrepreneur venturing into the world of web hosting.
    What Is Dedicated Server Hosting?

Dedicated servers are a kind of internet hosting where a client can use a whole server without having to share with other users. With full control over the leased server, individuals and businesses have free reign over what kind of content, software, hardware and operating systems they want to use with the hosting service. Maintenance and administration can be carried out by a business's own team of IT experts, or by the hosting providers themselves for an additional fee. Many other add-on features can be bought for extra cost, but the overhead fees are significantly smaller than other kinds of hosting plans, like large-scale cloud computing operations. Dedicated servers also offer great potential for operating systems. A lot of hosting providers will offer Linux or Unix operating systems for free with dedicated server plans, as they are open source and come in many different configurations. More tech-savvy IT departments of companies can also hook up their own OSs to a dedicated server, such as Windows Server and others.

The servers themselves are usually housed in large data centers which may or may not be located in the same general area as your business. Colocation facilities, which are data centers that can be physically rented out by potential customers, and provide perks like physical server security and around-the-clock maintenance and support.

Dedicated server providers of today are also capable of offering near-permanent uptime for large-scale data usage. Hosting providers who guarantee 100% uptime are usually capable of such because of redundant servers; meaning that there is more than one server hosting a company's data. If one server goes down, another can pick up the slack, and will still be able to host data at full capacity. Bandwidth consumption is also something many should be aware of when thinking about a dedicated server for business use. With the high-speed internet connections of today, many buisness hosting packages have switched from per-megabyte usage to per-gigabyte models. These are usually measured at monthly rates, and come in many different packages depending on a business's needs.

So Why Is It Great For Business?

Since you are allocated the entire server and the hardware that goes with it, the dedicated server offers a business great data possibilities. Even when your business does not specialize in information technology or networking, your internet capabilities will broaden greatly with one for quite a few reasons:

    • Better Performance – Unlike shared services like VPS servers, you are not sharing hardware with other customers in a hosting plan. Disk space, memory, processing power and the rest of the hardware are all yours to drive your business with.

    • Higher Reliability – Colocation services which typically house your dedicated servers will often have redundant backup services and constant maintenance, making them reliable even in the event of a server failure. A plan with guaranteed uptime will be your best friend when looking around for such a service!

    • Unlimited Customization – Provided you are partnered up with a team of experienced IT experts, you can customize your dedicated server with nearly any operating system, runtime environments and software you want. Some hosting providers can even include add-ons to make hosting plans more tailored to your needs.

    • Security – Off-site dedicated servers housed in colocation facilities not only provide physical security for your hardware, but security against viruses and other kinds of malware as well. The people who provide fast internet hosting services in the first place are no strangers to the kind of threats possible on the World Wide Web.

    • Dedicated IP Addresses – Shared servers may limit a bunch of customers to one piece of hardware and IP address, but the dedicated server has no such limitation. One IP address per customer means traffic only goes in and out of one host, creating a direct and much quicker line to the server.

    • Potential for Upgrades – Being able to customize your servers to your needs is all well and good, but technology has a tendency to become obsolete as time goes by. With dedicated servers, you can future-proof your hardware to an extent by adding on disk space, more RAM, processing power, and more as web traffic to your business increases. As your entrepreneurship begins to grow and blossom, the time when a dedicated server is a good option for your business may come much sooner than you might think!
