Why on earth would they ask Solus to suspend your license?

What exactly is the issue. I have never heard of them is it http://smartservermanagement.com/ ? I find it hard to believe they would not come back and fix what they considered to be solved.

If you get your license from smartservermanagement, then yes they could.

If you get your license directly from solusvm then odds are they can't. Unless, you are breaking the TOS with solusvm and they know.

Could you post the ticket logs? We aren't really getting enough information to help and this thread isn't making much sense.

What couldn't they fix? What did they say after you let them know it's still not working?

Then they can not suspend, until you don't break the policies.

Please read my replies in full, this is getting silly now.

When I fixed the issue, I logged into the VPS via xm console and showed you the uptime and hostname of the machine from the console. The VPS is up and running fine.

If you console in now and you get nothing its because you are logged in twice, restart the VPS then you will be able to console in.

I directly accessed the VPS via console.

The fault you reported has been fixed, you did not report a fault with network or SSH. You have restarted SSHd and the network service as I instructed, so if you cant SSH in it may be down to a firewall on the VPS, or a configuration issue with your IP's or the host machine. This is a seperate issue and if you want me to investigate I will have to charge you for it.

I'm not going to explain this again. Your issue was investigated, resolved and I showed you it was fixed, how it can be fixed in future by yourself and gave you a free OS template.

/etc/inittab is a text file you edit with a text editor like nano or vim.

    1:2345:respawn:/bin/sh

how do i find that file?

also its not runningf i cant ssh it or even console vm116 you are running via the hostname not to the vps directly

    Hi

You asked me to fix one issue with one VPS, that has been fixed.

All I have done is edited a file inside that one VPS.

If all of your VPS are offline, it's not something I have done and we will need to charge you more to fix it.

Please clearly explain exactly what your issues are, because clearly we are not understanding eachother and its wasting time. I dont normally work on Sunday but this was logged as a high priority issue.

Hello, none of the vps is working, if you did fix it why i cant ssh it please explain it.

i did not say i wont pay, all i am asking is you to fix it.

if you wish to file a report to solusvm you are very welcome to do so. all i want is this issue to be fixed , i wont want this ticket to turn nasty

I investigated and fixed the issue for you, and I proved it by consoling into the VPS where I had a shell prompt instead of "No more processes at this runlevel" which is the error you reported. That issue has been fixed.

I've given you a free OS template which doesnt have this issue.

If the issue has come back, its because you or a peice of software has broken the /etc/inittab file inside the VPS again.

If the VPS has no network connection that's a seperate issue which we will need to charge for. If no payment is made we will report this to Soluslabs and your license may be suspended.

    Thanks

    Hi

There are no issues with our template, we have more than 2000 VPS built from it. We have investigated your issue, fixed it and given you a free OS template.

We have to charge for any further support

The HDD manufacturer probably says upto 55c, but for a good LIFESPAN / longevity of the drive it should be 35-40c.

It's not going to die straight away, but 50c+ is hot, if you google you will see people reccomend 35-40c, there is either poor ventilation in your server's case or poor cooling where your server is located. HDD's dont generate that much heat

    Hi

I have fixed this issue by repairing /etc/inittab inside the VPS. Please note that the VPS takes a long time to fully startup due to Sendmail as the VPS doesnt have a proper hostname:

    sh-3.2#
    sh-3.2# uptime
    15:14:46 up 3 min, 0 users, load average: 0.01, 0.03, 0.00
    sh-3.2# uname -a
    Linux brokenLinux 2.6.18-308.8.2.el5.centos.plusxen #1 SMP Tue Jun 12 16:27:53 EDT 2012 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux
    sh-3.2#

Please also note that the hard drive in your server is running quite hot (53c), it should be around 40c or less for a good lifespan.

The charge for this is £15.00, please make payment here: https://billing.pcsmartgroup.com/cart.php?a=add&pid=199

If your INIT scripts are damaged this typically means you have filesystem damage. The best thing to do is backup the necesarry configuration files and reinstall the OS on your system.

Hello, i need assistance in the "INIT: no more processes left in this runlevel" error

i was suggested by solusvm to contact you guys to have this issue fixed.
now, even if i had issues with the ips or what so ever, i am still unable to console my vps and it still shows the same error after they said they fixed. it. its still not working and they said i had some network issues thats why i cant ssh. be it the ssh service is not running or what so ever, but console will still work fine. i did a console and it dosent work still. i hope you get my point.

it dose not metter if the ssh works or not all i care at this point is that my error is fixed and i am able to console in( if the eror was fixed). as far as i know i do not have any networks issues be it the server or the datacenter

also, they did not even tell me the price and just ask me to pay, i have no issues paying as long as my error is gone.

again, do try to get my point

I've worked with Chris before, so I'm not 100% on this, I thought he was a great guy to work with.

Looks like he's outsourcing support offshore now though, not sure maybe Senthil knows.

Opening this thread is a "crazy situation". I've got better things to do than rip people off, and I'm sure many people here will happily back me up on this.

Our level 3 system administration is NOT outsourced, Senthil who is one of our L2 guys referred the ticket to me and I dealt with it from the start.

All I am going to say is that this customer came to us asking us to fix an issue with one of his VPS, he was getting "INIT: no more processes left in this runlevel" on the console during startup, which you can see at the bottom of the thread he has posted.

I investigated the issue and fixed the issue by correcting /etc/inittab within the VPS.

    1) I showed him that I could console into the VPS, get to a standard shell prompt and execute uptime + hostname commands without issues.

    2) I told him how he could fix the issue himself if he comes across it again.

    3) I provided a free OS template which we know works perfectly, to replace the broken one he is using.

Finally, incase it was caused by file corruption I had also done quick a FSCK of the logical volume for this VPS and checked the health of his hard drive in the host machine which is running a bit hot.

That to me is a perfectly acceptable solution to the customers original fault, and its therefore chargable. If you refuse to pay after we have completed a job on your system, then we have every right to inform SolusLabs about this, who coincidentally referred the client to us in the first place.

    --

Now If the customer has issues with something else e.g. network/ssh, I am more than happy to look into it but it's going to be treated as a seperate incident and I refuse to provide further support until we have recieved payment. I may have even looked into it for free, but not in a situation like this.

    /thread

Looks like they went above and beyond to help you, even if you paid for further issues the 15 bucks or what not then it probably is still not worth the 3 or 4 hours of labor they already spent with you within that ticket.

Perhaps you need to retain someone to manage your machine on a regular basis as it sounds like you are not ready to be running these VMs.

Do you just try to get advantage on them?

I have read their reply and they fixed your issue and went far beyond to explain it.

If you have another issue, you need to pay for it, or consider it a new issue. You can ask them to solve every possible problem in the world and in your server in 1 ticket.

This is getting interesting now that Chris has replied.

In simple terms, he's done the work.
If you refuse to pay for work done, well you're as bad as you're making out Chris is.

Rule #1 - Never refuse to pay for time evidently spent working for you.

It's in your best interest to apologise to Chris and resolve outstanding balances.
Otherwise, I wouldn't expect members of this forum to offer you any support in future.

The issue was resolved and I have tried to explain this to you countless times. Other people in this thread also confirmed i have fixed the issue as per my ticket reply. If you are not willing to co-operate or read my replies properly what do you expect me to do?

Your working with someone who manages Linux systems on a daily basis and has years of experience with Xen and templating OS's, you had a simple issue fixed in a matter of minutes. Why would I rip you off? I've done sysadmin for some of the largest vps providers on WHT.

This will be my last reply as I've got more important things to do, pay up or don't expect any favours from people here in future.

I looked at this for free for User45 and he told me the problem he was having was getting new VPS to boot after provisioning.

Looked at all the standard stuff and decided it was his images, uploaded a new image from stacklet (pygrub set as well) and the VPS was then booting to a certain extent and failing on the drive mount.

Changed settings in on the vps itself to be sda and then edited solus and all is now working correctly.

He still has a networking issue but as far as the free work goes we've resolved the problem for him.
