Rack Uplinks

Those of you who reach full rack density (rack full top to bottom), what are you using as your uplink capacity? 1ge? 1ge lags? 10ge?

What type of utilization are you seeing? (primarily interested in non 100TB type of providers).

Thanks

1ge lags is fine. Haven't seen a need for 10ge uplinks yet. 10Ge is more common for 100TB offerings. If you aren't doing high bandwidth offerings then doing 1ge with additional uplinks of 1ge is more than enough. You probably wont use more than 2Gbps if you have no 100TB users.

Low density stuff is 2x 2 1ge lags running active active, high density is running 2x 10ge. Mind you were also running our iSCSI and backup traffic on the same links and that uses far more bandwidth than IP transit.

We have high density racks for VPS (VMware/Xen) offerings that have usually 2 * 2 gigEs and in one case a 10GigE but for webhosting racks I'd say if you are hosting commercial clients that send/receive emails... even 100mbps uplink is overkill
