What happened to all the GOOD designers?

I haven't been here too much sense just recently but I'm now looking for a premade ready to go web hosting website but so far all I have seen is over-priced crap that anyone with a months worth of training or less could accomplish.

I'm seeing people trying to sell there 15 minute crap for $250.00, where has all the good designers gone?

There is nothing better than a custom design. Custom design is done as per your requirement and you will choose once you are satisfied with the result and template.

Let us know if you require custom layout. Thank you

Well did you hear about Dan from LoadingDeck.com

    He did http://zone.net and http://wiredtree.com

    Now he's good!

His designs are 1-2,000 dollars. But they are GOOD!

Im going to be honest, you're right. I do designs too (you may see my thread in Design offers), I/Sarora Designs did http://sarorahost.com and http://saroradesigns.com however they aren't the best. Sarora Designs took like 3 hours to code and design, and I absolutely don't sell any designs over $150 for 5 page, unique. But you have excellent points, most people are too much into the money!

Good designers are priced out of the market, it is like lemons problems in the economic theory, the bad prices out the good. There are so many that even charge 10 bucks a page, how do a good designer survive on that.

For me I look for design firms that I know of nowadays. You get what you pay for.

Let's just keep this simple. LuckyAnonymous, why don't you list the type of budget you're after and some sites that you like? And let's just leave it at that.

Guys, remember that all advertising rules applies here as well, this isn't a magical thread where rules don't apply. Let's keep this on topic and especially polite. There's no need to criticize the OP's views or anyone else's for that matter. The OP is after a specific style, if you don't like it, then don't design it for him and just move on to the next thread.

Where you look has alot to do with the quality you will receive. Here is what I noticed. Customers what a million dollar site on a hundred dollar budget. I see alot of people that want want want want want want want want want want want but think that it should only cost $100. Bottom line is design can be very expensive. Ofcourse it can be cheap, but so will the results. Also, people seem to think that just because a design looks good, that it will make their business bloom like spring flowers. WRONG!!!!!

To the OP, I have seen very high quality designers sell one pagers for $550+. I understand that you want a quality design (who wouldn't) but I would suggest getting a custom created design, and splurging a bit. If its for your business, you can't go wrong to hire a quality designer.

Since you say you don't want crap, and if your serious about paying some bucks to get even a pre-made site I would check out the following:

    http://www.loadingdeck.com - for a pre-made template
    http://www.onwired.com - custom
    http://www.frogdesigns.com - custom
    http://gr0w.com/ - custom and templates
    http://www.thepixelage.com/ - custom

    Good luck to you!

    EDIT:

If you like HostGator's site, talk to the people who designed it:

What is your budget? Also a time frame to get started and finished? Email me your specifications and I can get a quote for you asap.

From what you are saying, DevGuys nailed it perfectly. You need a custom designer with a budget in mind if you don't want what you call "crap".

I would also throw in 4design.tv in there for a custom design. Excellent work in my opinion and very easy to work with.

all the excellent designers are gone because the buyers that give appropriate amounts of money are also gone. but the sites you showed arent very complex. take a look at some of the sites my firm has done :

    www.urbanboombox.com
    www.sportsgfx.net
    www.brochuremonster.com

Thats not entirely true. There are hundreds and hundreds of excellent designers and hundreds and hundreds of "business minded" customers who know the value of good design and are willing to pay for quality work. I am not saying that designers should hijack their customers wallet. I am simply saying that design is artwork, and takes time...and if done right, takes alot of resource, research and strategic planning to make a business have a successful web presence.

When you market to children, your going to cut yourself short everytime. I see it day after day, where some "child" wanting to start a business (or already has a business) attempts to pay for a custom website with the lunch money he or she saved from school. The business is there, the money is there....its all about who you market to.

Yeah so far all the designs I've seen here recently could have been made from people in my web page basics class in high school.

Don't get me wrong, I do love simple designs too, but well thoughtout ones that wow me.

BTW My budget is $250-$1000, could be more its a pretty random budget, just want what I need for the best price.

I agree with that, and designers do need to take their time with pre-made templates if they are going to be sold for $200+. However at that rate I wouldn't expect the world. I would say your budget seems fair for a 1-3 page design XHTML and CSS valid. Any higher page count and you could be spending out of your budget range I would say for quality work.

Nonetheless, in your journey to find the perfect designer that meets your needs to a tee, if you have any questions regarding design please PM me, we are always willing to help

Thats the thing, I only need 1 homepage design, then I could easily work around it.

But I've still yet to find someone around here with good designs, like yours are good but simple enough for me to create, so I need more complex designs.

If you have some let me know.

Thanks LuckyAnonymous. No, we have actually never designed a layout for a hosting company. I think our rates are in the higher end now days though as our custom designs, along with:
    - project management
    - information architecture
    - and wireframes
    start around $3500+.

If you'd like to discuss further I'd be happy to PM or email each other.
