Need some help regarding what server i might need

    First off hi!

I'm in the process of having an adult paysite setup and need some advice on what specs i might need.
The site will have around 100gigs of videos that will be streaming and downloadable and around 20 gigs of photos.
I know there's no exact due to it not even running yet but what do you guys think?
I have the business plan setup on hostgator and didn't know if i should start on that and then move to a dedicated server but i'm thinking maybe i should just start on a dedicated server?

Adult sites tend to get a lot of traffic, and I would hate to see your site being slow driving business away because its on a shared host. Your best bet would be to get on a dedicated server, or even a small cloud that you can scale as your site grows.

I think if you want a reliable dedicated i'd recommend personally GigeNET Intel Xeon E3-1230 server because it looks to me like a good specification server and they have brilliant sales and support, I've got a R1soft with them and they really helped me get to know it etc.

8 GB DDR3 I think would be perfect for a website on its own server.

100 Mbps Public Public Uplink Port Speed would be good for your server as its fast!

10,000 GB Public Bandwidth would be plenty, if you need more you could upgrade they offer 20,000GB and 30,000GB.

250GB SATAII HDD Would be perfect as you said you have more than a 100GB amount in files.

    For $179.00 a month.

At minimum the e3-1230 with at least 8GB's of memory fully dedicated. Also most web host include 500GB drives included in the price. I would also consider a raid setup like RAID 1 for data redundancy.

    Hi gibbajabba
    welcome to WHT

    from our experience,
An established adult paysite setup should include at least 2-3 servers for a decent backend.

A streaming server to host the content, and a frontend website server.

A third server ( less mandatory in case of tight budget)
    - is intended to back-up your information and act as a failover solution in case of service faults.

as Lee pointed out - RAID 1 for data redundancy is Highly recommended.
I won't let a business client run without it for sanity reasons.

In ANY case - avoid shared hosting for streaming, it wont hold for a long run.

and never forget - backups - backups - backups !
