    Site Monitoring

I have just had a suport ticket from a client who says that her site seems to go down for a few hours everyday, this is obviously very bad news if its true. I have just opened a support ticket with my hosting provider but what is the best software to monitor uptime for multiple sites?

this site is on my reseller usa account but will also want to monitor my new VPS as well.

Some of the free ones I use are UptimeRobot and tagBeep, they are both very good.

To monitor the VPS I recommend Nagios.

Is it just 1 customer that is making this report? It is possible it can be an isolated issue to the customer (ISP related)

I have been using UptimeRobot for a few months now and its a good system to let you know when a site goes down.

The host seems to think its a network related issues and has given me some instuctions to pass on to the client should it happen again. I have also signed up with UptimeRobot and added three sites to keep an eye on them, though as most sites will shortly be on my new VPS I will make sure I have all sites monitered at all times as its very important.

On UptimeRobot does it not say when the site was last tested as the "Last 24 hour status" boxes are blank, though the "status" boxes do say 100%.

Since it may be the client's isp, you should introduce her to just-ping.com and a couple of similar sites so that she can check as soon as she notices.

    +1 on Uptimerobot
    MOnitor.us was unreliable
You may want to have a few monitoring simultaneously to see which ones are most accurate.

I use UptimeRobot. It is okay. I use the e-mail alerts right now. One feature I had to stop using was their SMS alerts. It used to come as one alert "site is down" then one alert "site is up". Now I get two alerts, because the message is broken in half due to them adding annoying signatures to the alerts, namely their Twitter account. I submitted a ticket to them asking if that could be shortened and they refused. Last year they didn't have long SMS text with the signature, just said something like "regards, uptimerobot" or something like that. I don't believe my cell provider changed SMS max characters either.

siteuptime.com -> Ask you client to have an account here which is ofcourse ONE free. Any status report would be a real help.
