Laptop with no OS? or Linux

    Hi,

Can anyone suggest a decent(for the price) laptop in the price range of £150-£200 with no OS.

I live in the UK, so they need to ship here

What do you want the laptop for? Gaming and rendering wouldn't be feasable at that price, but say for basic internet usage (emails/social networking) possibly a chromebook, or this although it is pushing the budget a bit!

Yeah just basic usage. Nothing heavy.

I don't think that is a good offer. You can get pretty much the same thing with Windows for only a little more.

I would prefer a 17 inch screen if possible

17 inch would be quit big to handle. I would recommend DELL laptop. They are best in build quality.

Get Hp or Dell, and you can select with free dos, as with windows it can cost much price.

    Personally i like HP
17 inch will be little high price , better to take 15.6

One thing to note about OEM Laptops (Dell in my experience) is that they do apply a bios lock, specifically a dell netbook so it might not be the case with laptops, that you have to pay 60$ for...

Ebay is your place to go for cheap cheap prices, laptops don't come new at £150-£200.

£68.99 current bid on a HP G6 Blue:

I recommend Linux Mint or Ubuntu if you want a OS installed after.

I get all my laptops on ebay, there's plenty there in your price range.

Its going to be hard to find one without any OS on it. Besides, you're really not paying that much more for the OS.

If you can go for Macbook, then it would be the best option that you can have within your budget. The shipping costs may vary, but you can get a good laptop for both gaming and surfing.

I bought Acer Aspire E5-511-P7UX for basic (rough) use recently. It is pretty good and come with Linux. I reloaded it with Mint and it is performing good so far. Spending ~ $350(local price) for quad core, 2GB DDR3 RAM, 500 GB HDD, 7 hours batter backup, etc is a worth. I recommend it if the model is available in your country.

I'm using a Lenovo laptop now, and it's great, but your budget is a little tight

I will suggest you to go with a Dell laptop. Build quality of a Dell laptop is much better than others but i think you have to spend some extra bucks to purchase it.

    hm

Linux especially centOS or ubuntu with a GUI does very well ( when resources are low ) like 4 gigs of ram and a i3 processor. I'd suggest you can do much on linux rather than windows , well not considering gaming but most of the programming / dev work is supported on linux.
