Fraud Client
Hey Guys,
I have a client that we discovered was attempting to run a fraud ring with several different types of payment businesses. He was even pretending to be a bank. I have all the details for this client including domains that have been registered. I have been following each new registration, and emailing the abuse areas of the specific hosts but he is still getting signed up. I also created a fraudrecord for him. Is there any objection to me putting the details we have in this thread.

I think you should ask to one of the mods, to be sure it's not against WHT rules.
My "ranking" is kidding.
I'm just a humble client, here to seek help and guidance from the true experts.

You'd be surprised how common this is and its usually caught fairly quickly. Most of these people use stolen CC info or come from high risk countries which most hosts already have blocked by default so I wouldnt spend too much time on this. Just my two cents.

What type of hosting services are they signing up for? Is it Dedicated Servers?

No Reseller Accounts. I was more looking at it not from a fraud client perspective, but from an illegal activity thing.

If you have already terminated this client (i hope you have), I believe you either have to report it to the police or pretend it didn't happen and move on. Posting on forums wouldn't help much.

Yes they were terminated a while ago. Its no problem for us. Just wanted to help out the forum as I can see they are still getting hosting accounts. I don't want the thread get out of control with the consensus being its more trouble than its worth, so if the mods want to close this thread down that's probably the best way to go.

It's a double edged sword that I've gone through as well. Some members will praise you for the heads up, while others will try to cast fire on you. I personally believe on sharing and calling out cons. Many times when you google their name and email, and you start to find out about a ton of other cons and such going on for years.
You want to publicly call out a con-artist but can't due to your own TOS. Technically and legally, you cannot share this clients information due to breaking your own TOS/Privacy Rules (if you have one). Such information can and should only be forwarded to law/legal officials.
It does suck because a con-artist has no regard of TOS's.
Now, if you were a designer, then you could say anything about the person.

I for one appreciate the heads up. If there is a certain person that continuously opens false accounts, I think that's proper content for a forum inhabited by Web hosts. I'm not saying dwell on it. But if hosts could work together to flush these people out, why not if it only takes a couple of minutes to share? Just my 2 cents.

These are quite popular, i remember we had a few which was just a bank screen, and it looked legit as the proper website.
Aslong as you put the details on the fraud websites and such, then these idiots wont be around for a long time!

I always find this so silly. Update the ToS!
On several of my sites, the privacy policy outline what is not protected. These sorts of dirtbags don't deserve protection. Seriously ... afraid the scammer will sue you? It's ludicrous.
(But I would be wary about names ... those can be faked or borrowed.)|| Need a good host?

I actually agree. The moment a "customer" is trying some form of antics with their account...that shows they never had any regards to the tos, aup, privacy, bylaws, laws, or any rules of any kind.
I find it funny to be on both sides;
As a host, calling out a scam customer is frowned upon and you generate all sorts of online hate....which really is a bit childish.
As a designer...I can call out their name, dedicate a site about the individual, have information given about the person, track down others who interacted with the person, and get all sorts of praises from communities, and the word spread around.
A con is a con. At least in the USA there's the law that if someone breaks into your home and you defend yourself, it's allowed. Here in Canada....someone breaks into your home and you defend yourself, even if the con drops charges, the police will automatically charge you. Very screwy
