Fantastico vs Softaculous
Hi,
I am starting a Web Hosting business with cPanel.
My host is offering me two addons with cPanel :
1) Fantastico
2) Softaculous
I have used Fantastico for some time. My host recommends to use Softaculous. Which one should I choose and why ?

Fantastico is as good as a dead horse. Softaculous is the right choice.

This comparison says everything!
And as someone else said, scripts in Softaculous are always up-to-date, while ones in Fantastico are obsolete; I remember it took them more than half of year to include SMF 2.0 instead of 1.1.15...
There are two things I found especially useful in Softaculous, which are not offered by fantastico:
1. Editing options in Fantastico are very limited - once you install some script, not only you cannot change any option, but you cannot even see details of installation (for example, database name), while Softacuolous offers that possibility!
2. Softaculous offers demo, that's great feature!

Like everyone said, there isn't much of a comparison. Fantastico is pretty much in the #deadpool. Softaculous is great, always kept up to date. I can't comment on their support, as I have never had to use it. They offer a free and paid version if I remember right (although that could have changed).

I thought Fantastico was releasing a new version? But for the time being Softculous wins by a mile simply due to the huge number of scripts available, not to mention it's very easy to use.

Absolutely, Softaculous, hands down.
Best reason? Forget 'free trials', you can actually use Softaculous free. Sure, you won't get the full package, but hey, it's free, why not, right?
Second to best reason? The licensing structure can't be beat. Don't want to pay for a year, pay for a month to month license.
As others have said, updates are pretty good with Softaculous, as are the number of scripts. Sure, you're not going to actually USE everything in Softaculous, but that's not the point.
Cheaper, more updates, more scripts, less out of date scripts, even paid scripts (WHMCS, etc) installed, so all you have to do is buy the license? The answer, my friends is Softaculous, NOT the dead Fantastico.
Fantastico had a good run, but never really provided quality support, honestly.Tom Whiting, WHMCS Guru extraordinaire

Softaculous is by far better than Fantastico.
I stopped using Fantastico to install scripts because they were always outdated.

Fantastico is so slow with their updates, it's ridiculous for a paid application.

We switched from Fantastico to Softaculous about a year ago and best move we ever made.
Main reasons:
* scripts are kept up-to-date
* far larger choice of scripts
Fantastico was a major pain in the backside as it updated so slowly, meaning clients installed old scripts which required immediate patching to make them secure.
