What hosting accepts proxy website and can be scaled?
Hello
I started to search for a web hosting that could
handle a heavy proxy usage (a lot of bandwidth but
little hard drive space)
Are there are some recomended host comapnies?
I contacted 100tb, but their support works mon-fri.
I consider amazon aws or google app engine also,
i'd like to hear your thoughts about this.
Regards

Have you have a look at ovh?
Hi,
It really depends what level of B/W you are expecting, I see that ovh offer 10TB even on the low end servers, maybe that would be a good place to start.
They are an infrastructure provider so it is expected you know your stuff, but their self help portal lets you take care of everything from reboots to reinstall to requesting extra bandwidth should you need it, all without the need to speak to a support person!
Hope the above helps good luck and let me know how you get on!
Thanks

The shared hosting route would definitely be something to avoid.
A dedicated provider is a must for a proxy type website. For something that could be scaled up/down, you'd be looking at perhaps getting a cloud environment or load balanced servers.

A VPS is the minimum I would ever use for a proxy, they are often very CPU intensive. The problem is most providers forbid public proxies as they are a haven for abuse. They are often used for a Spam, Scams, Fraud and more.

I asked 100tb.com and they allow proxies as long as they are legal.
If OVH will respond i'll update here.

You really should consider an overseas host if you are looking to host a public proxy, otherwise if it's for team/personal/work use, any VPS should be a good start. Bandwidth will also be an issue most likely along with latency, so the location will be important depending on where the users are coming from. Best of luck!

I think that irrespective of where you go you need to check with them first to make sure they are cool with what you are doing.

You need a vps at least and purchase extra bandwidth for it if it's really high traffic. the usage of CPU/RAM would be high as well, so you actually need a powerful vps.

I second Cirtex with overseas / offshore hosts. If you are going to leave it a open public proxy then go with one of the cheap blackhat ones. If you are going to do it as a business and monitor it and run it legit then go for a reputable offshore host but you will need a min a VPS
