My husband and I and our daughter love it. And we get all the geeky jokes. I get the comics ones as I was a big fan of comics in the 80's. (Still am really, I get 2000AD every week.) I love that actors from SF shows are willing to go on and look daft; like Will Weaton and Summer Glau and the lady from Battlestar Galactica. I love Raj, he's so cute and hilarious.

If it weren't for the fact that Sheldon appears to be modeled on myself, I might enjoy it more. My family keeps laughing at him partially because they see me in him.

While I don't look geeky (have an athletic build), I certainly talk like him. I'd explained saturnalia and catholic paganism to my family, for example a few weeks prior to Sheldon saying it. I had harped on my brother moving to south carolina because of the crime rate, and researched the crime rates online to try to suggest a different locale the week before Sheldon did the same. Countless more examples exist.

Granted I don't build the contraptions he does, but the similarities kind of turn me off. I find it all quite funny though, if I watch it alone where nobody points out said similarities. Only parts I think are boring are the Penny-romance scenes, but I understand the premise is about a bunch of nerds and the chance to "bang" a "hot girl" (hence big bang theory being a pun) and the producers are just doing it for ratings.

hahahahaha that's funny you admit to being just like Sheldon -- too bad you weren't lanky and geeky looking then you could get a multimillion dollar tv contact!!! What was that thing they were talking about in Switz yesterday Sheldon Cooper PhD look-a-like haha.
