If you're willing to spend a bit of money, then Magento is a really easy way to get started. If not, then my favorite cart has got to be Ubercart, which sits on top of Drupal.

Zen cart is the same as Oscomerace, with all its strong-and-weak sides.

Do you have any specific requirements, e.g. do you plan to sell digital books?

Yes, we specialise in Zen Cart (a certified host and provide) and that is very feasible with Zen Cart!

    Hi,

I think zen-cart would be more powerful and security than osc for e-commerce sites. Also, it is handy to integrate wordpress under your zen-cart sites for blogging and back linking purpose.

Depends what you are specifically trying to sell and how. Can you elaborate?

I think OS Commerce is great, very versatile, bit of a learning curve, but once you get a hang of the software, it does what you need it to do.

oscMax.com is a really nice option, too. It is osCommerce with many really nice plugins already in place (which really makes setting up an online store a breeze.)

I've never used any of the Wordpress ecommerce plugins but I think I might start playing around with them a little more.

Magento is huge, but its a good system, just not as many themes addons yet for it. Zencart has a nice backend, and is a version of oscommerce with all its pros and cons. My vote is for zencart, also for opencart.

It all depends on the features you are looking for, mostly backend. Most of wordpress themes have limited backend features but they are faster to set up. I suggest if you build this store for the long run, go for oscommerce or zencart, they are free anyways ( via fantastico or softaculous ). On top of that, the communities of those two carts are very active, so you get help fairly fast.

I would suggest wordpress shopping cart themes mostly for affiliates and store owners with a few products, within few minutes you are up and running.

I think Magento is a good software but more resource intensive than Zencart and OScommerce. It will cause a higher load on the server compared to Zencart and OScommerce.

Have a look at Zingiri. Works with Wordpress, Joomla and Drupal.
