I've heard good things about TheHostingTool, certainly remember them when they was in early stages of development.

I'm much more familiar with BoxBilling than with TheHostingTool; however, for a free piece of software, The Hosting Tool looks like a pretty robust platform. If I were starting a new hosting business, or looking for a free billing software (a la WHMCS), I would go with The Hosting Tool over BoxBilling - which, while nice, is mired in a number of problems and still is missing some essential functionality.

Comparing THT vs Boxbilling, it need many latest technology and design for THT. But looking in Boxbilling, its is best for the beginner.

boxbilling is so awful (I have many detailed posts on this) that I'd pick anything over it. So THT if I was doing a free host. If this was a choice for a paid host, I'd pick neither.

The free scripts aren't that good. Best to use WHMCS or wait for WHSuite to be released.

I once installed TheHostingTool out of boredom. To be honest it looked a bit on the frightening side -- both functionality and security aspects. I have no idea how often it's maintained (if at all) any more.

Think about the integrity of the paid billing software most of us use -- especially over the past nine months or so. Several security disclosures, security updates, functionality enhancements, etc., were issued. I've heard nothing about updates to TheHostingTool. To me that suggests it's either unmaintained or the most secure hosting/billing portal in existence with no security holes. Personally, I would lean towards the former.

I don't think the project is maintained anymore so might not be a good idea to run on a production site .

I'd say boxbilling, they're ok. Lacking some vital functions though.
