    Downloading Apps in Mexico

Does anyone know whether it is possible to download US-based apps from to a smartphone in Mexico? My understanding is that, since I live in Mexico (so my IP address in not in the US), I won't be able to download any games issued by US companies.

    Hello,
There are a few restrictions in some countries, mainly with payment processors. If your phone is rooted, you can in theory run a market enabler application to give you access to the US market.

Either use Market Enabler, a VPN or edit your build.prop.

First and third option requires you to be rooted.

Though you will gain access to restricted apps, you won't be able to purchase paid apps unless you have a US credit card with a US billing address.

You can also search the XDA, or request for the apk, even here at WHT, unless it's a paid app.

Just another thought, (no root needed), you can install a 3rd party App Store by downloading the APK file. An example is the Amazon App Store or AppsLib. Some of these markets do not have country restrictions as they use their own payment processor. These also done require rooting, you just need to enable the installation of non-market apps in your settings menu.

This is one of the luxuries that we android users enjoy over our iOS counterparts.

Unfortunately, the Amazon Appstore is restricted to the US too. Though there are some ways to make it work, like Modaco's (link), but I am kinda skeptical with it.

SlideME and GetJar are some of the more popular Play store and Amazon appstore alternative.
