Hey, i'm looking to get a dedicated server for hosting video game servers. I'm looking for something in North America with extremely low latency. I need the ability to get Windows server licenses as well. Preferably not too expensive.

All the best,
Nope, not particulary. Just somewhere that gets a decent or low latency all around the US and Canada.

My experience with the Peer1/ServerBeach network has had low latency.
All the best,

I had softlayer servers in their Dallas/Washington DC/Seattle DC's.
By far their best, is the Dallas DC.
Why?
It has the most connectivity
Is in the central US, meaning good pings for everyone in the US and Canada.

What ping did you expect? I'd play any game @ 90ms ping. Even though I get 9ms pings to them
But I'm only a few miles from their DC.....

Oh i expected about that. That's good from going to the US from Canada.
I get about ~50-60 from my servers at Carat Networks, and im on the other side of the country and using a different ISP.
Heres a test IP from Carat: 24.102.56.128

ok honestly you can't pick one DC to go with you have to spread it out. The best carriers are the ones who use more than one uplink and bandwidth provider so the routing will always go the fastest way to you hence the internap craze. btw, seattle softlayer is qwest.

I hope this helps Matt. I don't know of the IP's you can test. But, I hope a speed test would help. http://www.serverbeach.com/infrastructure/geo_diversity.php

I'd recommend going with Peer1 as well, their latency cross-continent is amazing.

what part of Canada are you from? Quebec or Ontario would do best on the East Coast and central like Texas etc
if you are west coast then of course Cali would do you best

I would check out colocrossing, large gsp companies incl. myself use them and they've been great so far. Server pings are low and reliable support is great to. If you need any help with your gsp company don't hesitate to drop me a line. Take care and goodluck!

If you want low latency and a solid network, which good access from Canada go with Softlayer @ Dallas. The diversity of carriers there is hard to beat, especially considering they recently increased capacity and carriers again for that location.
