If Rackshack is unmanaged why only RedHat?
If Rackshack is unmanaged why no Operating System of choice?
Just wondering...since they only deal with problems on the hardware level leaving you to deal with all of the problems on the software/OS level, why don't they have FreeBSD, OpenBSD or Debian servers???

I think rackshack has hard drives on reserve with RH already installed. So when customers request an OS reinstall, RS just pops in a new drive, but don't quote me on that

^^ that may be true... but i think its just cus they are used to installing one os and its easy to know and configure one. If they offered many they would have to know all of them or have many drives on hand that are configured and copy them.

Both of the above statements are exactly right I believe.
Rackshack does keep imaged hard drives on hand so if someone requests a restore, they just pop a new drive in. They also clone their drives to start, so they want to first develop a trouble-free 'perfect' image and then they roll that out to all the servers to they're all the same. Volume reduces costs to a minimum: initial setup, parts/drives that need to be kept on hand, and training & update costs for those working at the datacenter.Dedicated Servers at Steadfast Networks and Softlayer : Virutal Hosting at FutureQuest : VPS at FutureHosting

Is there anything you get with RH 7.3 that you can't get with RH 7.2 and up2date?

Acctually no, main issue is that you have to upgrade Kernel remotely (done that, but..brrrrrr) and everytime you need OS restore they will return it back to outdated 7.2 and than upgrade everything once again...and so on..

It might be because Rackshack supports Ensim and it is installed on the servers which requires a control panel. According to the Ensim FAQs http://www.ensim.com/products/webppl...ux/faq.html#16
"Q. What Operating System does Ensim WEBppliance 3.1 require?
A. WEBppliance 3.1 runs on Red Hat 7.2. At this time, WEBppliance for Linux only runs on the Red Hat Linux distribution. "
That could be part of the answer. Perhaps by using RH 7.3, it will break Ensim ??http://www.batchimage.com - Offering Batch Image Processing and TIFF/PDF Software Solutions

True, it is probably for the ease of updates.
