What's the right fit for me?

Hi guys.

I'm new and still scouring this forum for the right hosting solution.

I'm looking to get a server with something along these necessary specs:

- VPS Server/Ded
- Based in North America
- Ubuntu/Debian
- WHM/Cpanel
- Has good 1-800 Support/24/7 Email Support
- And is relatively cheap...

So far I'm having difficulty finding something like this.

Could anyone steer me in the right direction?

Thanks!

Ubuntu???? Are you serious?!

I would never run Ubuntu on a server, but to each their own.

What you're looking for is a managed VPS if you care about the phone support 24/7 and all that so it might not be cheap, but a good place to start is maybe looking int he offers section under VPS

+1

Use CentOS/RHEL/Debian, they're a real server-grade OS, not some bloated, over-glorified desktop OS.
If you want to use Ubuntu, use Debian. They're identical aside from Ubuntu ripping Debian's testing branch. Like the other member noted though, cPanel is not compatible with any Debian-based system.

What is your budget and what will the VPS or server be used for?

I agree, do not use Ubuntu. I would recommend CentOS 5.

If cost is a concern, you may lean toward VPS over dedicated. A proper VPS setup is much more reliable than a single drive dedicated box.

Do you have an actual budget you consider in the range of "cheap?"

Also you're going to need to go with CentOS for cPanel if you want your life to be easier.

Your budget would be critical on making the decision. There are many providers who offer at cheap prices. Since you are a newbie mainly look for whether the service provider has 24x7x365 support.

We'd probably need more budget details, but I can tell you my 24x7 experience with KH (KnownHost) has been super-responsive and they've got servers in Texas and Cali. It has cPanel, Plesk or DirectAdmin. You can shop around for other good companies in the VPS offers section of this forum as well. Good luck!
