    Locking half-cabinet?

Do such configurations (individually lockable half-cabinets) exist? Asking from a customer point of view. I have a full cabinet now, but I don't need that much space any more. Considering downsizing.

Downtown Los Angeles, if it matters.

    Thanks.

I think they do exist through some secondary vendors. If you are downsizing to half cab, they just might do the "escort only" option.

Yes locking half cabs are around, They cost more than a full cabinet, 1/3rd locking cabinets cost a bit more than the half cabs and 1/4th locking cabs cost a bit more than the 1/3rd locking, they don't really make things cost effective, a reputable cabinet company half cab option would run 2k, 1/3rds closer to 2500-3k.

Yes, racks with 4 individual 22u/23u doors are quite common in DC's, as are 8*11u, and even 16*5u

locking half cabs definitely exist, but not all providers offer them. You possibly could save maybe $250 / mo vs a full cabinet with the same amount of power.

DedicatedNOW has nice ones. I like the ones that are 2 separate entire halves with those little keypads to open each half. I bet they cost a gold mine

I have an idea for a special cabinet layout I'd like some day... somewhat like octals but not quite.. for my future setups..

Exactly, they are very expensive, so you won't see many offering it because a half cabinet customer won't want to pay the premium to cover the higher cost and since you say you want to save money, it might not be easy to find in your budget. However, there are some providers in LA that have them.

I had a half-cab in Quadranet in downtown LA. They were almost out of stock I last checked, but maybe they still have any in stock?

Half cabinets may or may not save money. Many of today's data centers are priced based on power density as opposed to actual space. Savings to move from a full cab to a half cab may be minimal since you are still using 20Amps of power. <<snipped>>

Attached is a link to an APC cabinet which allows for two separate customers in half racks.

But as others have mentioned, for the most part it doesn't make sense to half rack. In most cases it is the same price to have a half rack as it is for a full.

Was it locking? I had a half cab at one point, but it was really just half-of a full cabinet, without any other customers in the other half

We (QuadraNet) have 7 more datacenters in the building, where we do have individual locking half cabinets available in some of them.
