List of cheapest domain name registrars at unlike kinds

And you can guess which of them are dodgy by how many times they try to upsell before you get your domain

I wouldn't call upselling "dodgy" - just prudent business practice.

Decent site - might also be useful to have other TLDs.

Yeah it's not dodgy per se, but it works out to be a pretty good estimation - the completely non-dodgy ones tend to have 0 upsell attempts and the dodgy ones have loads.

I think it's mostly there for the sake of amusement

    Hi,

What did you mean by "dodgy". Thank you for the list.

Ummmm let's say.... in this case, dodgy meaning "employing questionable marketing practises" or perhaps, "putting making money above customer satisfaction"

Margins are rather small in domains. You can't run a decent business by just selling domains at cut-throat prices.

Cheapest is not always the best option IMO.

I am personnally using Namecheap ( and 2 others ), NC is not the cheapest, but fair pricing and great support. Satisfied customer!

Thank you for the list. There's also these price comparisons:

How are you updating yours, automatically?

Of course you also have to keep in mind that those lists only contain the published prices - may registrars will give their clients with larger volumes rebates.

    That depends, honestly.
The way the major players are setup right now, they are profiting close to 50% on some TLD's , simply by saying "Hey, all TLD's are priced the same".

Of course, business is all in it for profit, that's a given, and a no brainer, but some of these companies take that way too far. If you've got millions of domains, what's it going to hurt you to drop prices to a reasonable level for the TLD's that aren't up as high as .com ? Nothing, yet they insist on keeping prices jacked up there.

    Are those all Registrars ICAN-accredited?

Could you share any current promotions from those Registrars?
BTW, how long have they been providing domain registration services?

Good business practice is to try to get the prospects into your store.
Then, they get to see what's on the inside as in back-end.
Your sales profit comes from selling back-end products and not the front-end products as in "cheap domain names".

    nice list, thank you.
I think it's also interesting to have an idea of the wholesale prices - there is a lucrative niche in maintaining a large pool of domains and building them up for potential clients - like reselling domains with a twist.

Godaddy might be cheap, but i refuse to register any new domain there because of their problematic business practice, constant spamming and super confusing admin panel.

That's not their "price for .coms", that's their price for new customers, domains, or transfers. Their real "price for .coms" is over $10 by now

We price our domains to make pennies. Mostly we are trying to attract leads for hosting and web development. Often we promote and up sell like crazy to get people to try our services. Having quality services and reasonable prices makes your customer happy, but cold leads don't have this experience with your company. Promoting is how you get people to try your services. The market is very competitive.

    We do domains for $9.95/yr:

I do not know if this is cheap or not. Hosting companies are rarely making money from domains but is using them as combo with their services.

For all the reasons, Godaddy is good, it is cheap, secure, popular, and it has lots of features in terms of domain name management, buy sell etc.
