need datacenter near 111 8th ave ny.

my friend needs to move soon, apparently the abovenet building was sold and he needs a STABLE place, he's known for stability, abovenet will give him service within 50-60 miles of that area.

1 cage with room for 6 racks.
    8-9 20 amp circuits

    any suggestions would be appreciated.

by the way, bandwidth isn't necessary.. only a cross connect to abovenet's area in the building.. so the building requires abovenet.. he just needs space and power.

Go with EQUINIX as it will fill your needs in terms of cage + power , and it has abovenet as one of many ISPs on site with which you can do crossconnects.

Most colocation providers should be able to give you colocation cabinets or a cage with reasonable power density and transport back to 111 8th fairly easily.

Digital Realty Trust are scum, they've been treating clients they are evicting quite badly, and making it extremely difficult to leave even while they're forcing you out.

Right now the place is a disaster - the lobby is ripped out, the front door is barred, and you have to take the elevator to the third floor, walk down a stairwell, and enter through the back of their facility. If you want to get equipment out it's an hassle there too - you have to walk it out the back.

There is NO staff but a security guard, and the guard has no idea what is going on. Good luck trying to get help with ANYTHING - it is totally useless there.

Gone are the days where an excellent Above.NET staff would help you with anything you needed, and provide excellent service and support. The place is a dump now - that's what happens when you have a "realty trust" try to run a colocation site.

I understand that the facility has been sold and all, but this is NOT how you treat a paying customer.

You might consider getting colo IN 111 8th. There are several datacenters there which should be able to give you a cross-connect to Abovenet.

Two of the larger datacenters there are:
    Telx http://www.telx.com/facilities.php?s...11EighthAvenue
    Switch & Data http://www.switchanddata.com/maps/map.asp

You can also check the tenant list, although it appears to be a bit outdated:

I love TelX, Hunter Newby was the man over there, sorry to see him go. But I would check with them. Their business on the East Coast is top notch.

I have heard very positive feedback from companies moving out of suit 209 Digital Realty Trust to Telx on the 8th or 3rd floor.Telx is one of the only comapnies at 111 8th that still have enough space. In addition AboveNet is already in the Telx Meet-Me-Room so it's only a demarc change for them too. I'm assuming you could keep your existing IP range also.
