Bulletin Boards - Which is best?

I'm wondering what is the best free bulletin board to go with? I'm going to be buying vBulltin but I want something to tie me over. I'll need it to be able to convert to vBulletin when I buy it. It'll be a few weeks before I'm able to obtain vB but I want to look at possible layouts and just see a board in action. What do you guys reccomend for this?

I personally like Invision Board for a free software. Easy to use and quick to get installed.

Their is some documentation in the vBulletin site about it, so i would guess so. Good question to ask them though

Just go straight to VB. It'll save you some headaches down the track.

Use phpBB. There are convertors from phpBB to vBulletin and vise versa.

..and Invision isn't free anymore. But it doesn't matter - it ugly and ovecrouded so i would never use it anyway.

In you're gonna get it in a few weeks, then just wait for it. That's what I would do.

Invision Power Board is free still... you have to hunt on their site to find it, but you can get a free version or the fee version... not sure the difference.

Personally, I've used Invision, phpBB, and vB, and I think vB is well worth the money. I've also lived through a couple of migrations and would highly recommend you wait and do vB rather than migrate... it is not all that easy to do.

    VB is numero uno.

    PHPbb is second best.

    Invision gets a bronze medal.

Has anyone ever heard of a person succesfully migrating from Discus 4.0 to VB?

I would say pick 1 of the 2 choices depending on whether you want to pay or you want something free.

    Paid: vBulletin
    Free: phpBB2

I personally would just go with vBulletin.

I totally agree with that statement.

Invision is nice, but VB I think is what all of them aspire to be.

I guess I should buy vB right away....it'll have to wait a bit cause there are other parts of the site I need operational first. But I guess thats what I'll do.

Everyone seems to be with vB, I guess it's a really good board then.

I've used phpBB a lot for some small things, I can already say I prefer vB but there is nothing wrong with phpBB and I thinks it's a good free alternative.

vBulletin is simply the best forum software I've ever seen. I blew $200 on UBB.classic a while back, and I regret it.

Well, most people seem to agree that it is the best and I don't think I've seen a vB forum that hasn't been custom designed so I'm guessing it's not that hard to make a custom style for it.

Well, v2.xx was easy to skin. I've only had a quick look at v3 and it scared the brown stuff out of me. It's a different animal and I don't think we'll be downgrading any time soon.
