Depending on the size of the partition. what is the output of df -ah ?

It will be the same as on dedicated server
it's os limitation, not vps limitation.

There may be a soft limit on inodes. You need to check with your provider.

your /root directory is mounted as part of the / directory. So when you do "df -h", whatever space is available for / is the same as is available for /root

If it's the number of files on Linux, check ulimit. It could be too many files / file descriptors etc.

The packaged default of the bundled operating systems are usually not enough in this case.

is it never a good idea to put all your files (especially if the number is big) in a single root or folder. you need to separate your files in folder or partition for fast access

normally I don't store any files in / , much better idea to store them /home/user/file folder.

the files are not overload your server, normally usage (downloading / uploading and other processes ) of server is overloading the server.

The issue is definitely the inodes upper buffer. Depending on your host, there may be a default that is set on the creation of the container which they may be willing to extend to a certain maximum limit per package size. The host should be able to both tell you the limit and extend it for you up to their prescribed max.

The technology is what you need to look at get away from openvz and control your own inodes with a KVM. openvz is great for something but that list is getting shorter every day.
