What currency?
Hello,
Not everyone lives in the USA but a lot of company's use the dollar for selling their hosting.
I am asking non American users, do you use the dollar or your local currency and why?

I have to have 2 sites and 2 WHMCS systems to handle this problem.
Charging in Euro often means people outside of europe pay diffrent rates each month, and they get annoyed when it goes up ever few months. So I just operate 2 diffrent sites, one for Europe and one for the US etc...
Makes more sense for us because many of our clients are US basedAdam Hoban.

90% of our customers (shared hosting) pay in Euro because we sell hosting in Greek market. The other 10% (mostly for server management services) pay in US dollar. We prefer payments in Euro but having more options is easier for the customers.

We bill in RMB (Yuans) because:
1) Most of our clients are in China
2) The RMB is strenghtening against the USD, so billing in USD would have meant a decreasing real revenue.
Clients however have the option to pay in USD, we update the accepted exchange rate once a month.Last edited by cycomhk; 06-02-2008 at 11:57 AM.

By the way, we only accept yearly payments (which is the norm in China). That way customers paying in foreign currencies (including USD) do not have to deal with changing amounts to pay on a monthly basis...

What effect does PayPal have on your currency decisions?
I perceive currency becoming less of an issue to many of our customers lately as they routinely pay with PayPal. It seems to negate some of the credit card currency conversion issues?

I am charging in US Dollars because 75% of my customers are in the US. My company experienced a decrease in 2007 as a result of the decreasing Dollar. It's a pain but on the long term the US will get their currency straight even if that means they will have to stop printing Dollars like crazy.

It's always best to offer both in your local currency (Canadian for me) and US if you intend to offer any service internationally.

Offer both... but i would say that, right now, most international clients would prefer to pay in USD because USD has been going down against other currencies.

I really wonder how long it will take the Dollar to recover. I think by the end of the year we will be at 1.4 at best and 1.7 would be the worst value I can imagine.

There are some indications that the U.S. dollar may be turning around, but it's highly debatable.
In any event, the relatively weak dollar does give U.S. hosts a competitive edge in terms of selling their web hosting to overseas clients -- currencies such as the Euro go further in paying for web hosting in U.S. dollars.
