My VPS is not responding correctly.
Hello All,
Yesterday with help of you all I successfully set up my VPS. I installed apache, php, mysql, DNS using GoDaddy total DNS control panel and postfix mail.
Everything was absolutely fine until 2-3 hours back. I was able to see my site up and running. Now suddenly when I try to see my site I am getting 404 error.
http://[IP-ADDRESS] resolves to http://mysitename.com and shows the 404 error again. When I ping my [IP-ADDRESS] , i can see successful packets being transfered, but when I ping mysitename.com, I dont get anything. It says unable to resolve the hostname.
Further I wrote a mail to my VPS hoster, and asked him about the problem. They provide zero support and are just happy to refund money but no support.
However over writing a mail again and requesting them to help, they atleast opened my site in the browser and wrote back "We dont see a 404 error, we see a blank page"
And this is how it should be. I have a blank page setup for my site right now. But why do I see a 404 error.
Is my DNS etc havent propogated rightly till now??
Thanks,
Imoracle

it could be your dns is not yet propagated but how many hours have passed? You can check also for DNS errors for your domain by going to intodns.com or checkdns.net to check on dns errors as most probably it is a dns error..... can you preview your site via IP add?

no as i said http://[IP-ADDRESS] gets resolved to http://[MYSITE-NAME], and then a 404 error.
However my friend who is in france, told me he too sees a blank page as intended.
I am just foxed over this, never seen such problems
I am checking with dns error and will write back.

well both intoDNS.com and checkdns.net return good report for my site. They can successfully get my DNS names and mail server names.
So why am I not seeing my site on my PC.
Will it take some time.

Abhinav what ISP are you using?
And if you are using your ISP's DNS in your internet connection, try settin them to:
4.2.2.1
4.2.2.2
Restart your PC, visit your site and see what it says.
Else
Open the host file (at C:\Windows\system32\drivers\etc) in notepad and below the line
127.0.0.1 localhost
Add
yourip yourdomain.com
Save the file, restart your PC
now open http://yourdomain.com (without www) and see what do you see.Vinsar.Net - Quality Web Hosting at Economical Price on USA & European Servers

Hi,
You mean to say that I add the following linein the host file?
[MYSITE-IPADDRESS] [MYSITE.COM]
is this what you are asking me to try??
Anyways trying
By the way ISP is Airtel, if thats what you mean to say
I tried flushing my dns using
ipconfig /flushdns
But with no result.
Comedy is, If I connect to my site using my office laptop i.e. by connecting to my office network (which is probably linking to US directly) using VPN connection from my home, I see my site. If I disconnect from VPN and I am back to my ISP network I dont see my site.
Lemme try and I will come back.
