I've been using WS_Ftp for years now, but currently looking for a better free solution.

ive been using smart ftp for some years now. i love it to bits, and havent found anything that is close to it. cuteftp was close, but was no where near as easy to use.

Slice, Is it super easy to setup? That's one thing I have always liked about the old (95) version of WS_ftp. It has been always easy to setup sites in and allowed me to do commands like chmod too.

as shotthebreeze said, it is extremly easy to setup and run. simple drag and drop settings, and you can transfer data between different ftp accounts.

I've been using SmartFTP for 2 years now, after using FileZilla and before that WS-FTP for more than 5 years.

It may sound like a sales pitch, but I'm not ready yet to go with another FTP program soon. Some few things I like about SmartFTP:
    - Easy to install, to configure, and to understand, with a fully customizable interface
    - V.2 has a new local browser that loads much faster and offers a better navigation, has alsos a thumbnail view.
    - Offers automatic backup of settings and data.
    - Has a native 64-bit version for Windows x64 Editions
    - Offers secure connections (TLS / SSL)
    - UTF-8 Support
    - Drag & Drop
    - Multiple Connections
    - Auto reconnect and resume of broken transfers
    - FXP support (transfering files from two remote locations/servers) with scheduling and unlimited simultaneous threads
    - Proxy / Firewall support
    - Custom commands
    - etc...

    And it's free!

1 more for filezilla. If possible I'd rather use WinSCP for secure transfers.

I did get a chance to download it andit's easy enough to use, and reminders me of the also free client WINSCP.

I like CuteFTP for the Windows platform. On the Mac I use the FTP program that comes with the operating system.

Yes, SmartFTP is a good (FREE) alternative, HOWEVER, I would take CuteFTP over SmartFTP any day.....I can't explain exactly why, but to me, CuteFTP is just easier to use....
